St. Louis provides farm and garden fresh goods from local growers all summer long. With several great markets throughout St. Louis, St. Louisans and visitors alike have lots of choices if they’re looking for organic, fruit and veggies, or locally baked bread to stock up on. Here’s a guide to the city’s farmers markets.

Soulard Farmers Market
When you mention farmers markets in St. Louis, Soulard market is most likely the first to come to mind. The market located just south of downtown St. Louis in Soulard was founded in 1838. The market has just about everything you could possibility want including fresh fruit and vegetables, meats, cheeses, bread, flowers, t-shirts, purses, sunglasses and much more! Soulard Market is open year-round from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, and 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Clayton Farmers Market
Clayton Farmers Market located in St. Louis County has all kinds organic and locally produced food including breads, cheeses, fruits, veggies and honey. You’ll also find candles, ornaments, cookbooks and gourmet dog treats. It’s open on Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., from May 4 – November 2, 2013.

Ferguson Farmers Market

When farmers at the Ferguson Market say their produce is fresh, they mean fresh. That’s because fruits and veggies are picked within 24 hours of being sold. The Market also sells homemade jellies, nuts, spices, and organic meats. You’ll also find five prepared-food vendors including BBQ, Jamaican, omelets and Mexican serve breakfast and lunch.  The Ferguson Farmers Market is located at 20 South Florissant at the Victorian Plaza. It’s open Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon from May 4 – October 26, 2013.

The Cheshire Farmers Market
Filled with fresh and local food, this  is one of the ultimate destination for purchasing the best in local cheeses, meats and poultry, produce and beverages from Missouri’s finest microbreweries and wineries. Participating vendors include Missouri Farm Fresh Food’s, RCR American Pasture Pork, American Grass Fed Beef, Ozark Forest Mushrooms, Baetje Farms, and Marcoot Jersey Creamery.

Tower Grove Farmers Market
Beautiful Tower Grove Park is located in South St. Louis and each Saturday morning you’ll find crowds buying fruits, vegetables and more. The list of vendors changes from week to week, but there’s always a variety of local and organic produce, bread, and cheeses. It’s open on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon, from May 4 – November 2, 2013.

Schlafly Farmers Market
Every Wednesday dozens of vendors set up shop at the Schafly Bottleworks in Maplewood. They offer a wide variety of local and organic produce, meat, and more. You can also enjoya cold Schlafly beer and live music while you shop. It is open Wednesdays from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. from April through October.
