5 Things to Do in St. Louis this Weekend 9/20 – 9/22

Friday September 20, 2013

Happy Friday, everyone! Here are five things you’ll want to make sure you do in St. Louis this weekend.

The Great Forest Park Balloon Race & Glow – 9/20 – 21
The Great Forest Park Balloon & Glow Race begins with the balloon glow and fireworks at Central Field Friday evening and ends with a “hound” and “hare” balloon launch on Saturday. The annual, two-day event includes a photo contest, a Purina children’s entertainment area and an array of local talent performing. Click here for parking tips.

Shakespeare in the Streets – 9/20 – 21
Wrap up September with a weekend full of Shakespeare in one of the liveliest neighborhoods in the city. As you venture through The Grove, catch the play performed by locals and professional actors that have artfully adapted William Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale, a story of loss and redemption, which explores the themes of time, jealousy and healing. The hour long play will be performed at 8:00 p.m. each night.

St. Louis Symphony Opening Weekend – 9/20 – 22
Join the St. Louis Symphony as it begins its 13/14 season. Led by Director David Robertson, the symphony opens its season with concerts featuring Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with Kirill Gerstein on piano, Copland’s “Lincoln Portrait” and Ives’ “Three Places in New England.”

7th Annual Dancing in the Street 9/21
Dancers of all backgrounds take to the streets to welcome the Grand Art Center’s fall season. Talented performers exhibit an array of styles including tap, ballet, modern and jazz, salsa, clog and Bollywood, on the three outdoor stages between Lindell and Delmar. Vertical dance troupe BANDALOOP headlines the event.

13th Annual Old Webster Jazz & Blues Festival 9/21
Gather your friends and family and celebrate St. Louis’ blues heritage at the 13th annual festival in picturesque Webster Groves. Festivalgoers will find non-stop jazz and blues music from two stages showcasing St. Louis’ most talented performers plus food and drink from area restaurants. There will also be street entertainers with face-painting, juggling and balloons.

If none of these events are your thing, check our calendar of events for a bunch more. Whatever you do this weekend, I hope you have a great time.
