Eating Out(side)

Wednesday June 1, 2011

Looking for a place to grab a bite and enjoy the great outdoors? St. Louisans love to dine outside, so we put together a list of urban locales that offer a place to sit and sup away from the sidewalk. Spend some quality time in one of the specially-designed outdoor dining spots.

Escape the hustle and bustle of downtown for a casual lunch or dinner on the patio of Lucas Park Grille, Over/Under Bar & Grill, and Gio’s Ristorante & Bar, or settle in for some fine dining at Harry’s Restaurant & Bar, Mike Shannon’s Steaks & Seafood or Jim Edmonds 15 Steakhouse. For the ultimate upscale dining experience – and the world’s best view of the Gateway Arch – visit Cielo at the Four Seasons Hotel.

The Soulard neighborhood is full of garden-style cocktail options, including McGurk’s Irish Pub & Garden, The Great Grizzly Bear, Hammerstone’s, Broadway Oyster Bar and Nadine’s Gin Joint. Next-door neighborhood Benton Park features the colorful Venice Café for drinks and Frazer’s Restaurant & Lounge for eclectic American cuisine. Down the road in Lafayette Square, visit 1111 Mississippi for wine country fare, or enjoy the view from the rooftop bar and bistro of Vin de Set.

In the Central West End, Bar Italia Ristorante serves up fine Italian dining and Terrene offers upscale vegan and vegetarian-friendly cuisine. The menu at The Scottish Arms includes authentic pub fare and a dizzying array of whiskeys, and Midtown’s Triumph Grill gets your motor running with salads, sandwiches and a variety of entrees.

Al fresco fans at Westport Plaza flock to the patios of Trainwreck Saloon and Pujols 5 Westport Grill. Trainwreck’s menu includes popular pub grub and dinner specials, and Pujols 5 offers everything from chilaquiles and mimosas to steaks and seafood.
