National Park Service Centennial Ceremony and Birthday Party
The Jefferson National Expansion Memorial is celebrating this historic milestone with a commemoration ceremony and community picnic (featuring food trucks and FREE cupcakes), live jazz concert and more. Superintendent Mike Ward will be joined by city and state leaders in Luther Ely Smith Square (located between the Arch and Old Courthouse in downtown St. Louis) for a Centennial commemoration ceremony and celebration. Immediately following the ceremony, visitors can enjoy a community picnic in the square, with lunch from local food trucks, free Centennial-themed cupcakes from Sarah’s Cake Stop and Destination Desserts, and live musical entertainment from the Centennial Band from the New Orleans Jazz National Historic Park. Visitors are also more than welcome to bring a picnic of their own, too.
There are also a slew of events happening on Saturday, August 27 and Sunday, August 28 at the Old Courthouse, including a free concert by the Centennial Band, free performances of “Lift Every Voice: The Black Experience in the Heartland” play, and much more.
August 25-28 are also fee-free days at the Gateway Arch. Visitors can enjoy $3 off their adult Arch tram ticket, and free Entry-Only tickets.
