Opening Reception: World Chess Hall of Fame 5th Anniversary Exhibitions
Enjoy an evening of art, music, and celebration. Guests will enjoy three new fall exhibitions and world-class musical entertainment. Chief Curator Shannon Bailey will welcome guests at the World Chess Hall of Fame at 7 P.M. in the first floor gallery and food and drink will be offered throughout the campus. On September 9, 2011 the World Chess Hall of Fame opened its doors in Saint Louis in one of the city’s most vibrant neighborhoods, the Central West End. Since 2011, the World Chess Hall of Fame has welcomed over 55,000 visitors, over 30 artists and over 150 musicians. During this period, the WCHOF has provided hundreds of hours of educational programming and outreach. Thanks to the generous support of the U.S. Chess Trust and countless donors and volunteers, the World Chess Hall of Fame’s mission—to explore the intersection of chess and art—has earned the organization its place as a premier destination for arts and culture. A special thanks to Dr. Jeanne and Rex Sinquefield for their vision and support, and without whom none of this would be possible.
New Exhibitions: Animal, Vegetable, Mineral: Natural Splendors from the Chess Collection of Dr. George & Vivian Dean (September 29, 2016—March 12, 2017); Designing Chessmen: A Taste of the Imagery of Chess (September 29, 2016—March 12, 2017); Open Files: Celebrating 5 Years of Collecting (September 29, 2016—March 26, 2017)
