St. Louis’ Newest Restaurants Fill Historic Downtown Buildings

St. Louis has always been known as a great restaurant town where visitors can find more than a thousand unique places to eat. Today, it’s even easier for convention attendees to find some legendary meals close to the America’s Center convention complex.

The redevelopment of the Washington Avenue loft district just west of the convention center has spawned new restaurants in the hospitality district. Once the center of the country’s largest clothing and shoe manufacturing operations, today’s Washington Avenue has transformed into a trendy neighborhood with restaurants by noted chefs, nightclubs, residential lofts and retail.

In June 2010, a popular downtown eatery re-opened to a thirsty audience and rave reviews. Copia Urban Winery, located in the 1100 block of Washington Avenue, is a restaurant combined with a winery – all in the heart of downtown St. Louis. The popular eatery originally opened in 2006 but was forced to rebuild after suffering a devastating fire. The lounge-like ambiance compliments the eatery’s eclectic cuisine and – of course – a stunning wine collection.

Other eateries within walking distance of the convention center include: Mango Peruvian Restaurant; Mosaic, serving modern fusion cuisine; Kemoll’s Restaurant, serving elegant Italian cuisine; a gastro pub called The Dubliner Irish Pub & Bistro; two sushi bars – Wasabi and Mizu Sushi Bar; sports bars The Over/Under Bar & Grill and Ozzie’s Sports Bar and Restaurant; Rooster, a European-style cafe; Bridge Tap House & Wine Bar; Lola, a hip eatery offering American cuisine; Lucas Park Grille, offering seasonal Midwestern specialties; Stefano’s, a casual Italian restaurant; and St. Louis’ AAA Four-Diamond Award winner, Tony’s Restaurant. The landmark eatery is also a Mobil Travel Guide Four-Star Award winner.

Along the historic Mississippi riverfront, Lumière Place has added a number of unique elements to the St. Louis dining scene. The 75,000-square-foot casino complex features six on-site restaurants, including: Asia, a contemporary restaurant serving up authentic Chinese, Japanese and Vietnamese fare; House of Savoy, a Tuscan-style restaurant with a menu of hearty pastas and grilled entrees; and gourmet burgers from Burger Bar. Inside the complex’s Four Seasons Hotel, Cielo offers a menu of fine contemporary Italian fare, an exceptional wine list, and a breathtaking view of the Gateway Arch.
