Housed in the 600,000 square foot former International Shoe Company, the museum is an eclectic mixture of children’s playground, funhouse, surrealistic pavilion, and architectural marvel made out of unique, found objects. At 630 feet, the stainless steel Gateway Arch is our nation’s tallest man-made monument. The Arch reflects St. Louis’ role in the Westward Expansion of the United States during the 19th century. The park is a memorial to Thomas Jefferson’s role in opening the West, to the pioneers who helped shape its history, and to Dred Scott who sued for his freedom in the Old Courthouse.
