The holiday season continues in December with festivals, captivating museum exhibits and wintertime celebrations. Here are 12 events happening in St. Louis this December.
Grinchmas | December 1
Not to let Santa have all the fun this Holiday Season the Grinch will be out spreading holiday cheer and joy and to help raise funds for Shriners Hospitals for Children on Saturday. For a $7 donation, participants can get their photo taken with the Grinch. Those who bring a toy donation can get a photo taken for only $5. Joining the Grinch will be the clowns from Moolah Shriners, who will offer free face-painting and balloon animals.
Garden Glow | Through January 1
The Missouri Botanical Garden’s Garden Glow features a million lights surrounding visitors with a spectacle of unique installations amid some of the Garden’s most iconic locations. Enjoy interactive photo opportunities, traditional holiday music and festivities, delicious food and drinks and more as the Garden is transformed around you into a winter wonderland.
Central West End Window Walk | December 1, 8, 15 & 22
The Central West End neighborhood kicks off the holiday season with a window walk and street festival. The fun begins on December 2 at 1pm with live entertainment, ice carving, children activities, s’mores station and more while you browse for your favorite Holiday window display.
Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker | December 2 – 3
A 50-foot Christmas tree will entertain children at the Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker. For adults, there’s a backdrop created by La La Land’s set designer and the principal dancers. See it at The Fox Theatre from December 2–3.
Maplewood’s Christmas Tree Walk | December 7
At 6 p.m., Maplewood officially ushers in the holidays with the lighting of its Christmas tree at Citizens National Bank. Carolers and Santa Claus will be on hand for the occasion, too. Then grab a hot chocolate and take a carriage around Maplewood, or stroll through the downtown historic district, where local businesses will hold open houses and offer holiday specials.
Winter Celebration | December 8 – 9
The Saint Louis Art Museum presents a weekend of festivities for family and friends inspired by the warmth of the season and cultures near and far. You’ll find performances and art activities to create new memories, as well as experiences that delight and surprise. It’s a weekend of joy!

Home Alone In Concert | December 14 – 16
Experience the beloved 1990s box office hit, Home Alone In Concert, on the big screen with the St. Louis Symphony and a children’s chorus performing John Williams’ charming and delightful score live. See what antics eight-year-old Kevin McCallister comes up with when he is accidentally left behind from family vacation.
Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical | December 13 – 16
Returning for the first time since 2011 to the stage at Stifel Theatre! How The Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical is the record-setting Broadway holiday sensation which features the hit songs “You’re A Mean One Mr. Grinch” and “Welcome Christmas” from the original animated special. Max the Dog narrates as the mean and scheming Grinch, whose heart is “two sizes too small,” decides to steal Christmas away from the Holiday loving Whos. Magnificent sets and costumes inspired by Dr. Seuss’ original illustrations help transport audiences to the whimsical world of Whoville and helps remind us of the true meaning of the holiday season.

Bring your family to the Missouri History Museum for a fun-filled winter break! Enjoy live music, movement workshops, make-and-takes, and even a Noon Year’s Eve Party!
Bald Eagle Days at Pere Marquette State Park | December 28
December is the beginning of bald eagle spotting in the Metro area. Every year, thousands of eagles build their winter nests along the banks of the Mississippi River. Pere Marquette State Park is hosting its first Bald Eagle Day in mid-December. Visitors will watch a short presentation, then take a drive through the park to do some eagle
The Polar Express Train Ride at St. Louis Union Station | Through December 30
The magical story of a boy’s search for the meaning of Christmas comes to life when real trains departs St. Louis Union Station for a round-trip journey to the North Pole. Set to the sounds of the motion picture soundtrack, passengers will relive the magic of the story The Polar Express. Once onboard, hot chocolate and cookies are served as passengers read along with the classic children’s book, The Polar Express, by Chris Van Allsburg.
