The holiday season continues in December with festivals, captivating museum exhibits and wintertime celebrations. Here are 12 events happening in St. Louis this December.
Wicked | December 4 – 21
The twist on the classic story has been defying gravity for 16 years, and yet we can’t get enough. The play follows what happened way before Dorothy wore her ruby slippers, and how friendship is put to the test when one witch is labeled as good and the other as Wicked.
Disney Junior Holiday Party | December 4
Staple characters such as Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse join newer favorites including Vampirina and the Puppy Dog Pals on stage at the Disney Junior Holiday Party. The singalong (free to children under 2) features the classics and Disney Junior bops, with a special visit from Santa Claus.
The tension between Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy was made for the stage. Reimagined by Christopher Baker and directed by Hana S. Sharif, Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is given new life by The Rep, with that ever-thrilling romance only electrified.
Maplewood’s Christmas Tree Walk | December 6
At 6 p.m., Maplewood officially ushers in the holidays with the lighting of its Christmas tree at Citizens National Bank. Carolers and Santa Claus will be on hand for the occasion, too. Then grab a hot chocolate and take a carriage around Maplewood, or stroll through the downtown historic district, where local businesses will hold open houses and offer holiday specials.
Grinchmas & Cocoa Crawl | December 7
Not to let Santa have all the fun this Holiday Season the Grinch will be out spreading holiday cheer and joy and to help raise funds for Shriners Hospitals for Children on Saturday. For a $7 donation, participants can get their photo taken with the Grinch. Those who bring a toy donation can get a photo taken for only $5. Joining the Grinch will be the clowns from Moolah Shriners, who will offer free face-painting and balloon animals.
Central West End Window Walk | December 7, 14 & 21
The Central West End neighborhood kicks off the holiday season with a window walk and street festival. The fun begins on December 7 at 1pm with live entertainment, ice carving, children activities, s’mores station and more while you browse for your favorite Holiday window display.
Lafayette Square Holiday Parlor Tour | December 8
Experience a glimpse of early Christmas holiday traditions and modern holiday collections in this tour of homes in Historic Lafayette Square. In addition to the Holiday Parlor tour is the Holiday Market featuring many local businesses and artists – enjoy delicious treats & beverages, handmade goods, beauty products, crafts & visits with Santa.
Winter Celebration | December 14 – 15
The Saint Louis Art Museum presents a weekend of festivities for family and friends inspired by the warmth of the season and cultures near and far. You’ll find performances and art activities to create new memories, as well as experiences that delight and surprise. It’s a weekend of joy!
The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Musical | December 19

Gateway Dirt Nationals | December 19 – 21
The Arizona Sport Shirts Gateway Dirt Nationals returns to The Dome at America’s Center, for three nights of thrills and racing. Brace yourself as things get dirty as competitors take to the track in front of racing fans from all over the Midwest in one weekend.
Home Alone In Concert | December 20 – 21
Experience the beloved 1990s box office hit, Home Alone In Concert, on the big screen with the St. Louis Symphony and a children’s chorus performing John Williams’ charming and delightful score live. See what antics eight-year-old Kevin McCallister comes up with when he is accidentally left behind from family vacation.
Bald Eagle Days at Pere Marquette State Park | December 30
December is the beginning of bald eagle spotting in the Metro area. Every year, thousands of eagles build their winter nests along the banks of the Mississippi River. Pere Marquette State Park is hosting its first Bald Eagle Day in mid-December. Visitors will watch a short presentation, then take a drive through the park to do some eagle
The Polar Express Train Ride at St. Louis Union Station | Through December 30
The magical story of a boy’s search for the meaning of Christmas comes to life when real trains departs St. Louis Union Station for a round-trip journey to the North Pole. Set to the sounds of the motion picture soundtrack, passengers will relive the magic of the story The Polar Express. Once onboard, hot chocolate and cookies are served as passengers read along with the classic children’s book, The Polar Express, by Chris Van Allsburg.
