14 Events Happening in St. Louis this July
Summer has officially started which means parades, fun, and fireworks at the many 4th of July festivities in the St. Louis area. But that’s not all! After Independence Day there is still tons of fun to be had. Here are recommendations for things to do in July in St. Louis.
Fair St. Louis | July 4 – 6
Fair St. Louis is one of the biggest events of the summer. The fair offers a chance to celebrate Independence Day with music, food, kids’ activities and fireworks. This event will take place at the Arch Grounds. This year’s headliners are Brett Young, Keith Sweat, and The Flaming Lips.
The Muny Season Continues | July 1 – 31
The Muny is continuing its extraordinary season in Forest Park. Shows for July are Cinderella (July 8-16), Footloose (July 18-24), Paint Your Wagon (July 27-August 2).
The Nest Exhibit | June 10 – August 14
Have you seen it? A mysterious creature is coming to St. Louis. What is the creature, exactly? Why did it come here? What does it need? Visit The NEST, a new child-led playscape exhibit at Central Library to unearth the creature and its story.
Garden Party Lights | Through October 19
All Summer, the Missouri Botanical Garden is your after-hours destination for drinks, lights, music and dynamic multimedia. When the sun goes down, the light show begins where visitors will embark on a self-guided journey through a more than 1-mile free-flowing path and experience new multimedia

U.S. Junior, Girls’ and U.S. Senior Championship | July 10 – 20
The Saint Louis Chess Club will host national championships showcasing the best of American junior and senior chess. For the first time-ever, the U.S. Senior Championship – an invitation-only tournament for the top 10 players in the United States over 50 years old – will run simultaneously with the U.S. Junior and U.S. Girls’ Junior Championships.
Whitaker Music Festival | July 4 – 25
The open-air festival at the Missouri Botanical Garden continues through July. This month the free Wednesday concerts under the stars will feature Mardra and Reggie Thomas (July 3), Boomtown United (July 10), Annie and the Fur Trappers (July 17), and Dave Grelle’s Playadors (July 24). Admission to the Garden is free on Wednesdays after 5pm, and the concerts begin at 7pm. Everyone is invited to bring lawn chairs, blankets a picnic dinner and gather around the Cohen Amphitheater. Food and drinks are also for sale at the Garden.
Art Hill Film Series | July 12, 19, 26 & August 2
Join the fun this summer and head to the 10th annual Art Hill Film Series. Watch a film, listen to live music, bring a picnic, or get a meal from a host of food trucks! The 2019 Art Hill Film Series features Black Panther (July 12), Anchorman (July 19), Ocean’s 8 (July 26), and The Goonies (Aug 2). The party starts at 6pm and the film starts at 9pm!
Let Them Eat Art | July 12
The 13th Annual Let Them Eat Art event is happening on Friday July 12th! This is Maplewood’s original honor to Bastille Day. The event features live art demos by local artists, live music, and food & drink by Maplewood’s award-winning food sources.
St. Louis Filmmakers Showcase | July 12 – 21
The Whitaker St. Louis Filmmakers Showcase, an annual presentation of the nonprofit Cinema St. Louis, serves as the area’s primary venue for films made by local artists. The Showcase screens works that were written, directed, edited, or produced by St. Louis natives or films with strong local ties. The 12 film programs that screened from July 12-22 serve as the Showcase’s centerpiece. The programs range from full-length fiction features and documentaries to multi-film compilations of fiction and documentary shorts. Programs with feature-length films include post-screening Q&As with filmmakers.
Big Muddy Adventures – Full Moon Float | July 16 – 17
Join Big Muddy Adventures for their world famous Full Moon FLoat on the Mighty Mississippi River. Board one of their extraordinary 29 foot voyageur canoes for a short paddle to a beautiful uninhabited river island just in time for sunset and the “magic hour”. While you explore the beach and island, a “campfire gourmet” dinner is prepared for you to enjoy around the fire.
Grease – Stages St. Louis | July 19 – August 18
Looking for a dose of nostalgia? Stages St. Louis performs a beloved American coming-of-age story, featuring a beauty school fever dream and the best dance-off ever with a performance of Grease.
Midwest Belgian Beer Fest | July 27
Perennial Artisan Ales is having their eighth annual Midwest Belgian Beer Fest at the Tin Roof in downtown St. Louis. Join them and 56 of their favorite and closest brewery friends for a celebration of good beer and good times.
Open Highway Music Festival | July 31 – August 4
Enjoy 5 nights of roots rock and beyond at one of St. Louis’ best live music venues. Musical acts include North Mississippi Allstars, Justin Townes Earl, Hayes Carll, Jade Bird, John Moreland, Caroline Spence, Tonina, Sleepy Rubies, River Kittens, Blue Lotus Revue, Cara Louise and more.
