The holiday season continues in December with festivals, captivating museum exhibits and wintertime celebrations. Here are 15 events happening in St. Louis this December.

Gateway Dirt Nationals | December 2 – 4

The Arizona Sport Shirts Gateway Dirt Nationals returns to The Dome at America’s Center, for three nights of thrills and racing. Brace yourself as things get dirty as competitors take to the track in front of racing fans from all over the Midwest in one weekend.

Maplewood’s Christmas Tree Walk | December 3

At 6 p.m., Maplewood officially ushers in the holidays with the lighting of its Christmas tree at Citizens National Bank. Carolers and Santa Claus will be on hand for the occasion, too. Then grab a hot chocolate and take a carriage around Maplewood, or stroll through the downtown historic district, where local businesses will hold open houses and offer holiday specials.

A Christmas Carol | December 3 – 23

See The Reps first-ever production of A Christmas Carol! At long last, the ghosts of Ebenezer Scrooge’s past, present and future have caught up with him. Now London’s most infamous miser must take a transformative journey as he faces the worst parts of himself and discovers unexpected redemption. Michael Wilson’s wondrous adaptation has delighted more than 1 million audience members throughout the country.

Holiday Pop-Up Bars | All Month

Holiday pop-up bar season is here! Check out this list of all the pop-up bars that are decking the halls this year. Put on your ugly Christmas sweater, grab your crew, and get ready for some of the most instagrammable cocktails and holiday decorations you’ll see this year.

Grinchmas & Cocoa Crawl  | December 4

Not to let Santa have all the fun this Holiday Season the Grinch will be out spreading holiday cheer and joy and to help raise funds for Shriners Hospitals for Children on Saturday.  For a $7 donation, participants can get their photo taken with the Grinch. Those who bring a toy donation can get a photo taken for only $5.

Central West End Window Walk | December 4, 11 & 18

The Central West End neighborhood kicks off the holiday season with a window walk and street festival. The fun begins on December 4 at 1pm with live entertainment, ice carving, children activities, s’mores station and more while you browse for your favorite Holiday window display.

Light Up The Square | December 4

Beginning at 12:00 pm with a Holiday Marketplace in Fountain Plaza with over a dozen vendors to get started on your holiday shopping and delicious food & drink followed by a Holiday Pet Parade beginning at 3pm at Lafayette Square Park House. This walking parade will be ⅓ mile long from Mississippi Avenue to Park and Vail Avenue. The Holiday Tree Lighting will take place at 4:45 pm in Fountain Plaza.

PJ’s and Pancakes with Santa | December 4

Treat the whole family to a magical morning with the Man in Red. Leave your PJs on and leave the cooking to us as we prepare a kid-approved breakfast aboard the Gateway Arch Riverboat. After breakfast, families will enjoy fun games, crafting activities and plenty of photo ops with Santa.

U.S. Bank Wild Lights | Through December 30

U.S. Bank Wild Lights at the Saint Louis Zoo returns for the holiday season. Bundle up and bring your loved ones to, a winter wonderland filled with 1 million twinkling lights. In addition to brilliant light displays, warm up with winter-themed treats, and say hello to the animals at Penguin & Puffin Coast. Guests must purchase timed tickets in advance.

Straight No Chaser | December 10

Have an unforgettable night at the Fox Theatre with the cappella group Straight No Chaser. This group has emerged as a phenomenon with a massive fanbase, numerous national TV appearances and proven success with CD releases. The captivating sound of nine unadulterated human voices coming together to make extraordinary music that is moving people in a fundamental sense… and with a sense of humor.

The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Musical | December 16

The beloved tradition Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Musical returns to Stifel Theatre. This thrilling spectacle of music and dance that transports audiences to the North Pole to glimpse the magical lives of Santa’s Scout Elves. Featuring an original story and score, dazzling sets and costumes, and heartfelt moments that will bring the family together, this joyous and uplifting celebration will leave audiences captivated by the splendor of the season.

The Nutcracker by Saint Louis Ballet | Through December 23

Grand and traditional, Gen Horiuchi’s “The Nutcracker” is a large-scale production with glorious sets and lighting, hundreds of colorful costumes, rousing music, and the talents of Saint Louis Ballet’s professional dancers alongside students of the Saint Louis Ballet School.

Winter Getaway and Noon Year’s Eve | December 28 – 31

Bring your family to the Missouri History Museum for a fun-filled winter break! Enjoy live music, hands-on art activities inspired by the Museum’s special exhibits, storytelling, book giveaways, and a family-friendly Noon Year’s Eve celebration.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra | December 30

Music and the holiday spirit come alive again during the Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert, “The Ghosts of Christmas Eve, The Best of TSO and More” a larger-than-life performance complete with symphonic-rock music, grandiose light displays and spectacular effects.

Winter Jewels | December 31

Escape the cold as the Butterfly House magically transforms for Winter Jewels! Enjoy a Tropical Conservatory filled with elaborate fairy gardens, home to the guardians of our jewel-toned butterflies. Discover nature’s gems in the Chrysalis Jewel Mine, make new friends in the Gnome Forest, and meet enchanted animals throughout this colorful land!

The Polar Express Train Ride at St. Louis Union Station | Through December 30

The magical story of a boy’s search for the meaning of Christmas comes to life when real trains departs St. Louis Union Station for a round-trip journey to the North Pole. Set to the sounds of the motion picture soundtrack, passengers will relive the magic of the story The Polar Express. Once onboard, hot chocolate and cookies are served as passengers read along with the classic children’s book, The Polar Express, by Chris Van Allsburg.
