5 Things To Do This Weekend in St. Louis | June 15 – 17

Thursday June 14, 2018

Happy Friday! Here are the five things you won’t want to miss this weekend in St. Louis including Taste of Downtown STL, Jerome Robbins’ Broadway, ShowcaseSTL and more.

Taste of Downtown STL | June 16 – 17

The Taste of Downtown STL highlights the many restaurants in Downtown St. Louis during a free admission outdoor festival with some of the best restaurants in Downtown St. Louis paired with drinks, artists, and unique retailers. There is also a local music showcase on the main stage and special experiences with local chefs.

ShowcaseSTL | June 16 – 17

This year’s Riverfront Times 17th Annual ShowcaseSTL will be the largest lineup yet, with more than 100 acts set to perform. The event will take up more space on the calendar as well with the addition of a second full day! The Grove will be transformed into an-inclusive music crawl both Saturday, June 16 and Sunday, June 17!

The Muny: Jerome Robbins’ Broadway | Through June 17

In its first staging ever in the world since its original Broadway production and tour, Jerome Robbins’ Broadway is an epic musical anthology that honors the  career highlights of Tony Award-winning director and choreographer, Jerome Robbins. Filled with mesmerizing production numbers from some of Robbins’ biggest hits, including West Side Story, On the TownPeter Pan, The King and I and Fiddler on the Roof, this is one monumental Muny premiere befitting a celebratory start to our centennial season!

Shakespeare in the Streets: Blow, Winds | June 15 – 16

An adaptation of the Bard’s King LearBlow, Winds was scheduled to debut last September, but Shakespeare Festival put the play on hold. Now with help from the community Shakespeare festival is bringing this production back to the streets.  The reinvented work tells our continuing story as we address both the frustration and the pride that comes with living in St. Louis. Blow, Winds examines the racial inequity and social divisions within St. Louis and establishes the next generation as the leaders that will guide our community into a better future. Join us for a night of conversation and community through art!

Pride St. Charles | June 16

Pride St. Charles was founded by a mom who wanted to support her teenage son after he came out. First held in 2015 on the St. Charles Community College campus, it attracted nearly 4,000 people despite a huge rainstorm—which cleared up and left a bright double rainbow beaming across the sky. This year’s festival includes food trucks, beer from 4 Hands Brewing Co., live music from such local artists as Paige Alyssa, dance performances from Common Thread Dance Co., drag shows, DJ sets, a youth village, and a VIP area with food, drinks, and games. There will also be booths from local organizations, including Anime STL, PFLAG, PROMO, and the Washington University Transgender Center, as well as a live art booth in which people can create memorials to those who died in the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando.
