Friday December 15, 2017

Happy Friday! It’s time for another fun-filled weekend in St. Louis. If you are still pulling your plans together for the weekend, here are a few suggestions to help.

Gateway Dirt Nationals | December 14 – 16

For the second consecutive year the surface of The Dome at America’s Center in St. Louis is covered by dirt and prepared to welcome some of the best dirt Late Model and Modified drivers from across the country.  The VP Racing Fuels Gateway Dirt Nationals takes place beginning Thursday with practice and preliminaries leading up to the main events on Saturday.

A Christmas Carol | December 14 – 17

This fully-staged musical version of Charles Dickens’ classic tale, A CHRISTMAS CAROL, has become a Yuletide tradition. The show features a spirited ensemble of 23 performers who bring Dickens’ fable of redemption to life on a magical set created by noted designer James Othuse.  A full array of timeless carols such as “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” “Away In a Manger,” and “Here We Come A-Wassailing” are interwoven within the classic story of a tight-fisted, middle-class merchant Ebenezer Scrooge and all the beloved characters from Dickens’ 1843 novel.

A Charlie Brown Christmas | December 15

Watching the animated Christmas special was a holiday rite of passage for many; now, it’s been translated to the stage, complete with a new score and new storylines—though without getting rid of the parts that kids looked forward to watching every year, like the transformation of the sad, wilted little Christmas tree and Linus’ monologue as a shepherd in the Bathrobe Christmas play.

Saint Louis Ballet Presents The Nutcracker | December 15 – 23

Gen Horiuchi’s version of The Nutcracker, on the vast Touhill stage, incorporates spectacular effects such as glitter, smoke and pyrotechnics plus new choreography each year to keep this holiday classic fresh. A magical adventure that’s appropriate for all ages, The Nutcracker features the talents of Saint Louis Ballet’s professional company along with students from the Saint Louis Ballet School – and special surprise guests in the comic role of Mother Ginger. Glorious dancing, Tchaikovsky’s classic score — a holiday tradition in Saint Louis since 2000!
