8 Events Happening in St. Louis this August
August is here and that means summer will soon be over. But there are still some great events and activities to check out this month. Here’s information on things to do in August in the St. Louis area.
Final Weeks of the Muny
The Muny in Forest Park wraps up its 2016 season with “Fiddler on the Roof” (July 30 – August 5) and “Aida” (August 8-14) It’s your last chance this summer to see a musical at the nation’s oldest and largest outdoor theater. The shows start each night at 8:15 p.m. Tickets are still available through Metrotix, or skip the tickets, bring your binoculars and sit in the free seats.
Birds in Concert | August 4 – 25
The World Bird Sanctuary in Valley Park hosts a unique free concert series on Thursday nights in August. Each concert begins with children’s music from the Sanctuary’s in-house band, “The Raptor Project” while birds fly just overhead. Then, local favorites like Javier Mendoza, Fowl Play and others take the stage.
OVO by Cirque de Soleil | August 3 – 7
This vivid performance returns to St. Louis with its latest show. OVO tells of the bright world of insects that must deal with the sudden appearance of an egg that represents an enigma and the cycle of their lives.
St. Louis World’s Fare Heritage Festival | August 19 – 20
FREE Annual event in Forest Park bringing together people of the region to celebrate St. Louis! Enjoy favorite Restaurants & Food Trucks, Kids’ Island, Beer Garden, Live Music & Entertainment, Culinary Challenge, Artists Village, Backyard Games & MORE!
Fringe Festival | August 19 – 27
Immerse yourself into the eclectic performing arts scene that local STL artists have to offer. During this five day festival, you have the opportunity to experience an extremely diverse range of performance art, ranging from drama all the way to circus arts.
Moonlight Ramble | August 20
The tradition continues with the 53rd Annual Moonlight Ramble! So grab your bicycle and join us under the light of the moon for a bike ride adventure. The annual Moonlight Ramble is the “World’s Original Nighttime Bike Ride” held in St. Louis, Missouri at midnight near the full moon in August. Attracting thousands of riders each year, the event includes a leisurely bike ride through the streets of St. Louis, a vendor area, entertainment, a commemorative event shirt (It glows in the dark!), and an after-ride party.
Festival of Nations | August 27 – 28
Join the International Institute St. Louis as they celebrate their annual Festival of Nations. The event is a 2-day festival in Tower Grove Park that highlights the many artistic dimensions of our community from newly arrived, to long-time ethnic traditions. It is the region’s premier multi-cultural celebration and features over 40 ethnic food booths, non-stop dance and music, arts and crafts and an international bazaar with unique gifts from around the world. There will also be special events like the Highland Games, which are a Scottish sporting competition, and four stages where musical artists of all cultures can spread their sounds and traditions.
Street Car Super Nationals St. Louis | August 25 – 26
Get ready for the return of Street Car Super Nationals to St. Louis! It’s going to be ‘Anarchy At The Arch’!
The Street Car Super Nationals’ Anarchy Under the Arch II is bringing the quickest, most electrifying Pro Mods to St. Louis, the home of the best doorslammers in the drag racing. The SCSN is more than just racing; it’s an amazing family-friendly event under the lights at one of the top facilities in the country! Headlining the show is the Flying A Motorsports Outlaw Pro Mod class on the eighth-mile looking for sub-3.5 second passes to shatter the record books. In addition, SCSN is bringing five additional heads-up classes, including a NHRA-style quarter-mile Pro Mod field & four Small Tire eighth-mile classes, as well as two brackets classes (E & Non-E, with elimination’s on both Fri & Sat nights), and two Jr. Dragster classes. There’s something for everyone at Anarchy Under the Arch II!
