St. Louis Adventure: Go Ape Treetop Adventure At Creve Coeur Park

A couple of weeks ago, I tried out the tree top adventure course in Creve Coeur Park, which opened last year. It was definitely an adventure.

Before I get into the details of the course, let me cover a few things.

  • The course is not just zip lines. It’s a series of obstacles with zip lines in between.
  • The course is about 50 feet in the air, so you’ll be about three to four stores high throughout the course
  • You’re wearing a harness at all times, so you’re safe throughout the course

So, now my Go Ape experience.

The Go Ape Course is located on the upper part of Creve Coeur Park on Streetcar Drive. Once you arrive, a group of young, enthusiastic guides greet you as you walk inside where you then sign a waiver and then proceed outside for about a 20 minute training session, participates can navigate the self-guided course. All participants are equipped with helmets, harnesses, pulleys and carabiners and are attached to safety cables.

Go Ape at Creve Coeur Farm has five sites. Each section takes you higher into the forest canopy and finishing with a zip line longer and with more expansive views!  Zip Line #3 and #5 are both 400 feet long and Zip Line #4 is the first skateboard zip in the region.  The entire course consists of over 2,610 feet worth of zip lines and obstacles and 34 crossings.

The first site is more training and low to the ground, and then you enter a point of no return.

Site number two is where the fun begins! First I climbed the rope ladder, and then there were several obstacles I was faced with including a tight rope bridge, a variety of bridges and obstacles, a tarzan swing and finally a zipline. At each course site there are two challenge levels, one easier than the other. I personally mixed it up taking the more challenging one and then picked an easier one.

And that was the end of the first site. There are four more sites, and it gets more intense. Feedback from others in my group was that everyone had a lot of fun, and two people said this was their second time.

Go Ape is for people who are not afraid of heights, in good shape, don't mind getting dirty, and enjoy some fairly extreme activities.

You must reserve your space ahead of time, either online here or by phone. It's $57 for adults and $37 for kids ages 10-15, plus taxes. No kids under 10. There are weight and size restrictions, so check out the website before you go.

If you like heights and want to set your comfort zone on fire and throw it into full gear, go to the Go Ape Adventure course in Creve Coure Park
