As a teenager, John Adams saved for weeks to buy his first LP, Sibelius’ First Symphony, and the music was a revelation. On its cover was an image of a winter’s forest, matching the nature of the music within. Today, Adams leads this work alongside his own gritty, funky new piano concerto, played by Jeremy Denk, a world-traveling virtuoso and MacArthur “genius.”
