Orpheus was a superstar in Greek mythology. Stéphane Denève, conductor of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, brings two responses to the myth: the bewitching beauty of Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice and Beethoven’s Fourth Piano Concerto.
The latter will be played by pianist Paul Lewis. Among the world’s great Beethoven pianists, Lewis offers what Gramophone calls “shining musicianship.”
During the live concert, the sprightliness of Prokofiev’s First Symphony and Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin will refresh audiences with a splash of color, vivid lights and rich tonal variety.
