No matter your age, interests or budget, you’ll find something fun to do in St. Louis this weekend.
ganavya, has announced her ambitious new album, Daughter of a Temple. Blending spiritual jazz and South Asian devotional music, the album follows her appearance at SAULT’s 2023 London debut, where The Guardian praised her voice as having “delicate emotive heft.”
Recorded at Houston's Moore’s Opera House in 2022, the project features an extraordinary ensemble, including esperanza spalding, Vijay Iyer, Shabaka Hutchings, and Immanuel Wilkins, among others. Drawing inspiration from Alice Coltrane Turiyasangitananda’s musico-philosophies, ganavya gathered artists for a week-long ritual, integrating harikatha storytelling into the 21st century. Tracks like Om Supreme and Journey In Satchitananda / Ghana Nila highlight the album’s spiritual depth, while family members also contribute, making it a deeply personal work.
ganavya describes the project as born from loneliness and a longing for connection, aiming to create a “village” of creativity, devotion, and belonging. Through prayer beads, ritual acts, and collaborative improvisation, the group’s shared spirit is palpable. She hopes the album inspires listeners to feel less alone and recognize the power of love, prayer, and community.
