George Balanchine’s Western Symphony and Serenade

The Saint Louis Ballet will bring saloon girls and American cowboys, sweeping beauty and a haunting duet to the Touhill Performing Arts Center in October.

Set on a rugged street out West, George Balanchine’s Western Symphony is nevertheless a classical ballet. After the rodeo wraps, the evening will continue with the choreographer’s romantic work, Serenade, set to a transcendent Tschaikovsky score, finishing with After the Rain by Christopher Wheeldon, which features a simply dressed couple on a sparse stage engaging in an evocative pas de deux.
