John Garrett, Ethan Meyer, and Rick Griggs at Duane Reed Gallery

September 8 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Duane Reed Gallery proudly welcomes the return of John Garrett and his latest collection of knitted wool, glittering steel, and plastic sculptures as well as St. Louis-based fiber artist Ethan Meyer and sleek automotive sculptor Rick Griggs. John Garrett continues his long career in fiber, basketry, and construction of unconventional material systems, meticulously crafted nets and ropes incorporate nails, buttons, washers, corks, plastic flowers, painted aluminum, copper, cornhusks, bed springs and even plastic curlers. Notable collections include the Carnegie Museum of Art, the Museum of Art and Design, the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, and many more. Ethan Meyer’s multidisciplinary skills include painting, textile, wood, and mixed media sculpture, all with his trademark networks of complex lines and textures. His tumultuous patterns of phantasmagoric shapes and colors are inspired by consciousness, philosophy, and the unseen factors that affect daily life. Rick Griggs is inspired by industrial fabrication and product design, his work breaks commercial utility into its simplest elements. With special attention to the curves of a vintage car or the gloss of automotive paint, Griggs investigates the choices that go into manufacturing luxury and celebrates the roles of individual parts before they are viewed as one cohesive mechanical system. An opening reception will be held on Friday, September 8th, including refreshments and entertainment as part of the Central West End Gallery Night.
