Mary Meachum Freedom Crossing Festival

May 7, 2016, 11:00 am TO 6:00 pm | Mary Meachum Freedom Crossing | Free

On Saturday, May 7, 2016, from 11a.m.-6 p.m., residents from around the St. Louis are invited to watch local history come alive at Missouri’s first nationally recognized Underground Railroad site, the historic Mary Meachum Freedom Crossing. The event, titled “Beginnings of a Brave New World,” will celebrate what life was like after the Civil War in 1866, with a focus on education and the rise of black cultural institutions. The event will feature re-enactments; living history, with appearances by several costumed performers; music; games; dancing and food and drinks for purchase. The Mary Meachum Crossing site is located on the Mississippi Greenway on the banks of the Mississippi River, just north of Merchant’s Bridge in North St. Louis City (28 E. Grand Ave., St. Louis, MO 63147). The event is free and open to all ages.
