Neko Case

June 24, 8:00 pm | The Sheldon | $33 – $56

Neko Case with special guest Bendigo Fletcher.

Neko Case is the consummate career artist–fearless and versatile, with a fierce work ethic and a constant drive to search deeper within herself for creative growth. Rolling Stone calls her “one of America’s best and most ambitious songwriters,” while Pitchfork deemed her 2013 album, The Worse Things Get, the Harder I Fight, the Harder I Fight, the More I Love You, “the most potent album of her career.” Her unique journey from punk/country torch-bearer to “essentially peerless” (NPR) avant pop icon has spanned over twenty years. She has famously collaborated with The New Pornographers and Case/Lang/Veirs in addition to releasing critically acclaimed solo albums, including Fox Confessor Brings The Flood, Middle Cyclone and most recently 2018’s Hell-On. Her latest release, Wild Creatures, is set to debut on March 25.

The sound of Bendigo Fletcher begins with the poetry that informs it. With songwriter Ryan Anderson’s rangy, howling vocals as bedrock, the band’s creation floats between pop and folk-rock textures, unconventional structure, and wordplay as a feeling that functions free from a confined form and culverts beyond the comfort zone of Americana.

Anderson writes of intimate moments; revelations that occur on rhythmic steps through the woods; reflections on love and relationships. The songs are anecdotes, told not in the service of some grand moral conclusion, but as heady little hints at both the absurdity of the world and the awkward rewards of our living in it. Like a robin in the rafters or a couch in the garage.
