The St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and Jazz St. Louis come together for a very special festival.
In three concerts over two weeks, conductor Leonard Slatkin will explore the ways that jazz has enriched orchestral music. Each program ends with a work by George Gershwin – here, Rhapsody in Blue.
The Aaron Diehl Trio will make its SLSO debut in Mary Lou Williams’ Zodiac Suite, and the performance will also feature Paul Turok’s A Joplin Overture, which channels a former St. Louis resident, and John Alden Carpenter’s Krazy Kat, a ballet in which the classical composer incorporated jazz.
