See STL Tour: Urban Renewal

June 22 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

In the mid-20th century, St. Louis underwent a dramatic makeover. In the name of progress, expansive sections of the city were bulldozed to make way for new highways, parks, stadiums and high-rises. The area around St. Louis Union Station was ground zero for some of the city’s largest renewal projects.

While the projects drastically reshaped the city, they also displaced thousands of residents. On this See STL walking tour, you can learn about the people and places that made the Chestnut Valley and Mill Creek Valley neighborhoods special, the public policies that led to their destructions and the impact that those policies still have on the area today.

This walking tour, like all those guided by See STL, is two hours and wheelchair accessible.
