No matter your age, interests or budget, you’ll find something fun to do in St. Louis this weekend.
Step beyond the curtain with The Art Collaborative for a rare behind-the-scenes tour of St. Louis’ iconic Muny. Discover the artistry, skill, and innovation that bring each production to life at America’s oldest and largest outdoor theater.
Led by Facilities Manager James Spies, we’ll explore the world of set design, scenery, lighting, costumes, special effects, and sound. Each summer, James and his team work behind the scenes—hammering, painting, building, and rigging—to create the visual and technical elements for every show.
The group will meet at the front entrance near the main box office.
ADMISSION: Reservation is encouraged for this free Art Collaborative event. Walk-ins are welcome based on availability.
PARKING: Along with free street parking throughout Forest Park, the nearby Upper and Lower Muny Lots are available at no charge. The Lower Lot is located across from the east side of the theatre, and the Upper Lot is behind the top of the theatre. Accessible parking is available in all Muny lots.
WHAT IS THE ART COLLABORATIVE? An interactive, dynamic forum designed to connect art to people and people with art. Facilitated by artist Judith Shaw, this initiative aims to draw together a diverse, creative community of artists and art enthusiasts interested in sharing ideas, inspiration, resources, and information about what drives their creative passion, process, and purpose. The group meets quarterly in art venues, including artists’ studios, for hands-on, immersive experiences. Our goal is to foster cross-pollination among innovative institutions, organizations, and neighborhoods to showcase the vibrant art landscape in our region.
