SUMMARY:Begin Again: 50 Years and Counting
DESCRIPTION:Begin Again: 50 Years and Counting marks Laumeier’s 50th anniversary by celebrating five decades of artist commissions and exhibitions. Featuring hundreds of artists and rarely seen works from Laumeier’s collection\, the exhibition highlights the Park’s unique position at the intersection of public art\, contemporary museum practice\, and the natural world. \nCentering on artworks that have come and gone and proposals that were never fully realized\, the exhibition embraces change and impermanence\, emphasizing sculpture and sculpture parks are dynamic and ephemeral rather than fixed and unchanging. It also honors the many artists and commissions Laumeier has supported\, showcasing its long-standing and evolving relationship with artists and the natural environment\, while also acknowledging the complexity of curating public artworks in an outdoor setting. \nFeaturing materials drawn from Laumeier’s collections and archives\, Begin Again presents rarely seen drawings\, sketches\, studies\, photographs\, sculptural models\, and maquettes that illuminate the creative processes. Audio and video elements further amplify artists’ voices and insights. Arranged chronologically by decade\, the exhibition invites visitors to move metaphorically through time\, wandering through the Park’s history. \nOver 50 years\, Laumeier has supported more than 1\,000 artists\, including many women and artists of color at various stages of their careers. This presentation celebrates the remarkably diverse group who have shaped Laumeier\, reflecting a sustained commitment to a broad range of voices and perspectives. \nThroughout the show\, visitors are invited to reconsider and share their memories around what makes Laumeier a unique place that has inspired curiosity and wonder for more than 50 years\,  through Laumeier Stories\, a digital storytelling project.

The show honors Tom LaBrie\, a late-night T.V. movie host\, and includes gallery elements like Masonite faux-wood paneling and 1970s-style pendant lamps that enhance the immersive\, nostalgic experience. \nThe Gallery at The High Low is open to the public during café hours with no appointment necessary\, every day from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

SUMMARY:The 1904 World's Fair Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:The 1904 World’s Fair was a fascinating yet complex event that continues to evoke a range of emotions. It was grand and shameful. It was full of fun and full of indignity. Now\, 120 years after it opened in St. Louis\, the 1904 World’s Fair exhibit at the Missouri History Museum will reintroduce audiences to the fair and its legacy. \nBoasting multicultural exhibitions and architectural marvels\, which spanned almost 1\,200 acres of Forest Park\, the 1904 World’s Fair (also known as the Louisiana Purchase Exposition) was truly larger than life. Twenty million people attended this pivotal event in St. Louis history – one that continues to attract both awe and criticism more than a century later. \nToday\, the World’s Fair has taken on an almost mythical significance. In this revamped exhibit\, artifacts\, images and maps will illustrate a more complete picture\, showing what it was like from different perspectives: the organizers\, the visitors\, the workers – both those who came to St. Louis voluntarily and those who were forced. \nIt will re-examine the complexity of the fair in ways that will make this story feel new again. Learn about the fair as a construction site\, as an arena\, as a representation of empire\, as an amusement park and so much more.

SUMMARY:Collected: St. Louis History Brought to Life
DESCRIPTION:For more than 150 years\, St. Louisans have entrusted the Missouri Historical Society with countless objects: photographs\, diaries\, home movies\, clothing\, books – items that future generations can turn in order to help make sense of the past. \nSome of these pieces mark defining moments in the region’s history such as Missouri’s pivotal role in a heated national debate over slavery or the transatlantic flight that changed aviation. Others reflect everyday life\, from what we wore and ate to how we worked and played. \nCollected\, a permanent exhibition at the Missouri History Museum\, is St. Louis’ history brought to life\, one map\, toy\, T-shirt and painting at a time. \nCollected also features a rotating gallery that explores a different theme or part of the collection every year\, so visitors will always have something new to see. The first rotating gallery will draw from an archive of more than 2\,000 pieces of clothing worn by children throughout different decades in the 1900s. Dubbed The Life of Kids’ Clothes\, the special exhibit will share stories of St. Louis children that speak to childhood experiences\, which we can all relate to.

SUMMARY:Andrea Carlson: Endless Sunshine
DESCRIPTION:Combining intergenerational history\, archival research and theories of art and film\, Andrea Carlson creates incisive works of resistance and sovereignty that disempower colonial storytelling and practices of erasure. \nA descendant of the Grand Portage Band of Ojibwe and Scandinavian settlers\, Carlson’s layered\, multi-paneled paintings are made with oil\, acrylic\, gouache\, colored pencil\, graphite\, watercolor and ink. In the pieces\, the horizon line is a persistent organizing principle inspired by the ungraspable horizon line of Lake Superior. Viewers are seduced into her intricate collage-like imagery\, and yet\, beyond the central foregrounded figures\, there is an impenetrability into the dense distance. The overwhelming scale of her works also denies us access into the imagined landscapes\, preventing a kind of possession of the land. \nPresented by the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis\, Endless Summer is a developing body of work comprised of large-scale paintings on birchbark\, which reflects Carlson’s practice of interrogating longing and desire\, permission and refusal\, as well as themes around Indigenous sovereignty and Land Back.

DESCRIPTION:Majestic marble sculptures\, vivid plaster frescoes\, bronze artifacts and glass vessels chronicle life at the height of the Roman Empire in this ticketed exhibition at the Saint Louis Art Museum. \nAncient Splendor: Roman Art in the Time of Trajan speaks to the enduring power of art as a political and social tool\, showcasing how Emperor Trajan invested in art and architecture to shape civic life in the ancient world. The second of the “Five Good Emperors” of the Nerva-Antonine dynasty\, Trajan was known for granting citizenship – and the rights that came with it – to people from the far-reaching provinces that his forces conquered\, expanding and fundamentally changing the concept of what it meant to be Roman. \nThe 2026 exhibition brings unprecedented loans – most of which have never left Italy – to the U.S. from the renowned antiquities collections of the Vatican\, the National Roman Museum and the National Archaeological Museum of Naples.

SUMMARY:Aymara Weavings: The Indigenous Andes
DESCRIPTION:This free exhibition at the Saint Louis Art Museum presents exceptional weavings by Aymara artists alongside related works from the Central Andes. Dating primarily to the 18th and 19th centuries\, these skirts\, mantles and ponchos demonstrate how artists in Bolivia maintained and reinvented ancient artistic practices to express Indigenous identities during the colonial era. \nWhile pattern and form vary considerably across type\, the textiles in this exhibition share a number of characteristics. Each design reflects the vertical structure of the warp yarns made from exceptional hand-spun and hand-dyed fibers harvested from camelids such as alpaca and vicuña. \nShowcasing select works from a 2018 gift of art by Paul and Elissa Cahn\, Aymara Weavings offers visitors the chance to engage more deeply with the technically sophisticated and historically rich practice of warp-faced weaving among the Aymara.

SUMMARY:Currents 125: Blas Isasi
DESCRIPTION:Peruvian sculptor Blas Isasi creates sculptures in a wide range of materials and colors informed by ancient Andean cosmology and the landscape of the Peruvian desert. This free exhibition at the Saint Louis Art Museum focuses on the violent meeting between two radically different world views – those of the Indigenous Andeans and those of the colonizing Europeans – in early 16th-century Peru. \nCurrents 125 offers a meditated interrogation of Peru’s complex and layered history. Isasi does not romanticize Andean culture but rather suggests that it might offer alternative models for a troubled present. \nThe exhibition’s central installation consists of two large\, angular steel sculptures animated by rocklike shapes coated with sand; carved bones with hair extensions; and small\, highly detailed and colorful forms. The installation embodies the cultural hybridity resulting from the encounter between Andean and European cultures. The presence of hair and bone\, with their sacred meanings in Andean culture\, suggests that objects can be vessels for spirits. \nThe second space features a Chincha Inka balance from the Saint Louis Art Museum’s collection\, which was used to weigh objects in a pre-Hispanic barter economy. It is surrounded by sandstone sculptures with aluminum foil pieces\, which resemble Andean metal artifacts and\, again\, suggest a spiritual presence. Across the gallery is another scale with mutilated aluminum fingers on one side\, embodying colonial violence\, and a balancing weight of one kilogram on the other\, referencing the metric system as an archetypal symbol of science in Western Enlightenment.

SUMMARY:Visions of Antiquity
DESCRIPTION:Visions of Antiquity explores the power and persistence of Greek and Roman antiquity in art at the Saint Louis Art Museum\, with works ranging from 1500 to the present. \nOrganized into three broad sections – “Knowledge and Order\,” “Triumph and Tragedy” and “Remnants and Ruins” – the free exhibition takes a thematic approach to the role of antiquity as a source of inspiration and as a challenge for artists and viewers. \nWith works that reflect a variety of techniques\, materials and practices\, the exhibition invites visitors into a wide world of artistic response. Works in the exhibition question notions of classical order and draw attention to the fantasies and anxieties generated in these constructions of memory. \nThe resulting visual cacophony testifies to the many ways that what came before can be continually worked and reworked to make sense of the present and shape a new future.

SUMMARY:Rivers
DESCRIPTION:You'll be mesmerized by her hand cast forms and beautiful glasswork - it's an exhibition you don't want to miss. Rivers by Blaine Steiner\, co-owner of Spees Studios in Nashville\, will be on exhibition in the Third Degree Glass Factory gallery March 6 - April 27. \nAn MFA graduate of Tulane University in New Orleans\, Blaine received her masters in large-scale cast glass sculpture\, but she found her passion completely by accident. What she initially thought would be simply a ‘cool elective’ ended up changing the entire course of her life. \nHaving moved often throughout her life\, Blaine's most recent body of work\, Rivers\, began as an attempt to ground herself in places that have impacted her the most. She started hand carving forms that represented rivers where she had lived\, allowing her to confront feelings of loss\, nostalgia\, and opportunity.

SUMMARY:Mill Creek: Black Metropolis Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:From its origin at the turn of the 20th century to its destruction in 1959 in the name of urban renewal\, Mill Creek Valley was a center for Black life in St. Louis. With a population of nearly 20\,000 people and more than 5\,000 buildings\, Mill Creek was a city within a city\, noted for its vibrant commercial life\, rich culture\, and popular entertainment venues. How is it\, then\, that almost no trace of Mill Creek remains in St. Louis today? \nMill Creek: Black Metropolis explores the rich history of a St. Louis neighborhood that historians have likened to New York’s legendary Harlem. It was the home of St. Louis’s major Black newspapers\, the offices of numerous Black professionals\, a center of social activism\, and the birthplace of ragtime. All this richness thrived amid and despite racial segregation\, providing African Americans common ground and the refuge from the daily slights and indignities of a stark color divide in 20th-century St. Louis. \nThis new temporary exhibit at the Missouri History Museum will explore Mill Creek as a Black metropolis\, all that made it special\, and its untimely and intentional erasure from the St. Louis landscape.

SUMMARY:Yours Forever: Forest Park at 150
DESCRIPTION:America’s best urban park turns 150 years young in 2026. Over the course of the last century and a half\, Forest Park has hosted pivotal moments in St. Louis history: the 1904 World’s Fair\, Charles Lindbergh’s 1927 speech to more than 100\,000 people following his historic flight across the Atlantic\, and even a surprise Janis Joplin concert in 1968. But just as important\, Forest Park is the setting for countless everyday stories shared by St. Louisans: sledding down Art Hill\, exploring the Balloon Glow\, and visiting the zoo and museums. \nYours Forever: Forest Park at 150 will explore how St. Louisans have used and adapted the park throughout its history and the moments and memories—big and small—that make it special.

DESCRIPTION:Duane Reed Gallery is proud to present new works by landscape artist Jill Hackney and her latest series “Le Marais\,” inspired by the swaps and marshes of the artist’s origin in New Orleans\, LA. \n"These paintings often shimmer and vibrate\, creating a dream like ethereal image\, drawing the eye across the canvas. In these works\, instead of focusing on the objects\, I explore the complexity of reflected light and how it shapes the relationships between objects\, space\, and atmosphere." \nDuane Reed Gallery proudly welcomes the return of John Garrett\, continuing his long career in fiber\, basketry\, and construction of unconventional material systems. \nGarrett’s work thrives in whimsy and unpredictability; a piece might be woven\, wrapped\, plaited\, riveted\, painted\, rusted\, twined\, nailed\, stitched or tied. Each work of art is a meticulously crafted\, energetic and complex structure.

SUMMARY:Looking Back Toward the Future: Contemporary Photography from China
DESCRIPTION:More than 40 large-scale photographs created in China between 1993 and 2006 make up Looking Back Toward the Future at the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum. \nFeaturing the work of 14 contemporary artists\, the survey represents a wide cross section of the conceptual photography that flourished in the nation in the decades following the 1989 protests and massacre in Tiananmen Square – a pivotal moment of sociopolitical change that signaled the beginning of strict repressive measures and ended democratic social reforms that had been initiated after the death of communist leader Mao Zedong in 1976. \nThe free exhibition is divided into three interrelated thematic sections – The Presence of the Past\, East and West and Performance and the Body – which together explore how these artists used performance in conjunction with diverse photographic and aesthetic methods to capture\, freeze and criticize the new sociopolitical\, economic and cultural environment of China. \nOn view for the first time at the museum on the campus of Washington University in St. Louis\, these glossy photographs constitute a significant recent addition to the institution’s holdings of contemporary Chinese art. Created during a tumultuous period of recent history\, they together make visible the radical transformations that China underwent during these critical decades\, challenging past\, present and future.
