SUMMARY:Begin Again: 50 Years and Counting
DESCRIPTION:Begin Again: 50 Years and Counting marks Laumeier’s 50th anniversary by celebrating five decades of artist commissions and exhibitions. Featuring hundreds of artists and rarely seen works from Laumeier’s collection\, the exhibition highlights the Park’s unique position at the intersection of public art\, contemporary museum practice\, and the natural world. \nCentering on artworks that have come and gone and proposals that were never fully realized\, the exhibition embraces change and impermanence\, emphasizing sculpture and sculpture parks are dynamic and ephemeral rather than fixed and unchanging. It also honors the many artists and commissions Laumeier has supported\, showcasing its long-standing and evolving relationship with artists and the natural environment\, while also acknowledging the complexity of curating public artworks in an outdoor setting. \nFeaturing materials drawn from Laumeier’s collections and archives\, Begin Again presents rarely seen drawings\, sketches\, studies\, photographs\, sculptural models\, and maquettes that illuminate the creative processes. Audio and video elements further amplify artists’ voices and insights. Arranged chronologically by decade\, the exhibition invites visitors to move metaphorically through time\, wandering through the Park’s history. \nOver 50 years\, Laumeier has supported more than 1\,000 artists\, including many women and artists of color at various stages of their careers. This presentation celebrates the remarkably diverse group who have shaped Laumeier\, reflecting a sustained commitment to a broad range of voices and perspectives. \nThroughout the show\, visitors are invited to reconsider and share their memories around what makes Laumeier a unique place that has inspired curiosity and wonder for more than 50 years\,  through Laumeier Stories\, a digital storytelling project.

SUMMARY:Wak’a Garden
DESCRIPTION:Begin Again: Wak'a Garden is the second installment in Laumeier’s Begin Again series\, honoring the Park’s 50-year history of collaborating with artists and supporting new commissions and exhibitions. The organic\, amphitheater-shaped sculpture\, built from natural materials Laumeier’s grounds\, features ceramic hive-shaped vessels and a chemical-free teaching garden. It will serve as a multisensory space for reverence\, gathering\, educational workshops\, and live performances. \nThe project debuts April 18\, 2026\, in conjunction with Art & Nature Day\, inviting visitors all ages to explore art\, nature\, and community through hands-on activities and creative play. \nChávez and Torrez’s Wak’a Garden is a multisensory space for ritual and reverence. The organic\, amphitheater-like sculpture—built from natural materials such as fallen trees\, branches\, mud and rocks recovered from the Park—forms a habitat and sacred monument dedicated to native plants and pollinators. The installation features ceramic hive-shaped vessels created by Chávez and a teaching garden shaped by Torrez’s interpretation of the natural habitat. \nWak’as communicate when activated by sounds\, movement\, environmental signals\, rituals\, and collective experiences. A core principle in relating to Wak’as is reciprocity: humans offer care\, respect\, and symbolic gifts\, and in return\, Wak’as provide guidance\, protection\, alignment with the environment\, and opportunities for self-realization. \nWak’a Garden invites visitors to reconsider their relationship with nature\, emphasizing how care for the land can benefit the ecosystem and generate cultural and creative meaning. By blurring the lines between disciplines\, Chávez and Torrez aim to create a vibrant tapestry of mixed-media projects and programs.

SUMMARY:The Literary Garden: The Cultivation of Plants and Gardens in Narratives
DESCRIPTION:The upcoming special exhibition at the Stephen and Peter Sachs Museum explores the myriad ways that different cultures represent plants and gardens through literary media\, such as herbals\, novels\, poems\, comics\, and other types of stories. Highlighting Garden collections\, and using books\, images\, objects\, and botanical specimens\, The Literary Garden highlights how authors and creators depict plants to build our worlds of knowledge\, fiction\, and fantasy as they rely on a common vocabulary and vision of the plants we know and experience every day. Museum Curator Nezka Pfeifer has also planned a content-related performance series exploring many of the genres represented through plants in the exhibition. \nIncluded with Garden admission.

SUMMARY:The 1904 World's Fair Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:The 1904 World’s Fair was a fascinating yet complex event that continues to evoke a range of emotions. It was grand and shameful. It was full of fun and full of indignity. Now\, 120 years after it opened in St. Louis\, the 1904 World’s Fair exhibit at the Missouri History Museum will reintroduce audiences to the fair and its legacy. \nBoasting multicultural exhibitions and architectural marvels\, which spanned almost 1\,200 acres of Forest Park\, the 1904 World’s Fair (also known as the Louisiana Purchase Exposition) was truly larger than life. Twenty million people attended this pivotal event in St. Louis history – one that continues to attract both awe and criticism more than a century later. \nToday\, the World’s Fair has taken on an almost mythical significance. In this revamped exhibit\, artifacts\, images and maps will illustrate a more complete picture\, showing what it was like from different perspectives: the organizers\, the visitors\, the workers – both those who came to St. Louis voluntarily and those who were forced. \nIt will re-examine the complexity of the fair in ways that will make this story feel new again. Learn about the fair as a construction site\, as an arena\, as a representation of empire\, as an amusement park and so much more.

SUMMARY:Collected: St. Louis History Brought to Life
DESCRIPTION:For more than 150 years\, St. Louisans have entrusted the Missouri Historical Society with countless objects: photographs\, diaries\, home movies\, clothing\, books – items that future generations can turn in order to help make sense of the past. \nSome of these pieces mark defining moments in the region’s history such as Missouri’s pivotal role in a heated national debate over slavery or the transatlantic flight that changed aviation. Others reflect everyday life\, from what we wore and ate to how we worked and played. \nCollected\, a permanent exhibition at the Missouri History Museum\, is St. Louis’ history brought to life\, one map\, toy\, T-shirt and painting at a time. \nCollected also features a rotating gallery that explores a different theme or part of the collection every year\, so visitors will always have something new to see. The first rotating gallery will draw from an archive of more than 2\,000 pieces of clothing worn by children throughout different decades in the 1900s. Dubbed The Life of Kids’ Clothes\, the special exhibit will share stories of St. Louis children that speak to childhood experiences\, which we can all relate to.

SUMMARY:Women Impressionists and the Land
DESCRIPTION:Women Impressionists and the Land is the first exhibition to focus on nature imagery in the work of women Impressionists. Rather than concentrating on the domestic subject matter of these artists\, the ticketed exhibition organized by the Saint Louis Art Museum explores the less-documented outdoor spaces painted by key figures such as Marie Bracquemond\, Mary Cassatt\, Berthe Morisot and Blanche Hoschedé Monet. Comprising 70 works\, the show explores the way in which nature imagery contributed to the rise in status of women artists in France from 1860 to 1910 and examines favored iconographical themes\, including gardens\, parks\, farms and marine scenes.

SUMMARY:Quilts and Coverlets: American Needlework in White
DESCRIPTION:Focusing on 19th-century works\, Quilts and Coverlets: American Needlework in White presents superlative whitework textiles\, which are characterized by embroidery done in white thread on white fabric. In the U.S.\, whitework was predominantly practiced by women who not only had ample time and superb skill but who also enjoyed the means to carefully select and purchase lengths of pristine cotton cloth. \nThis exhibition features whitework bedcoverings in the Saint Louis Art Museum’s collection produced at the height of American neoclassicism from the early to mid-1800s. Accompanied by ceramics\, printed fabrics and needlework\, these exemplary quilts and coverlets reveal a tightly woven landscape of craft\, labor and authorship. \nWhile uncovering the cultures\, motifs and techniques of whitework embroidery\, this exhibition investigates the material significance of cotton as the product of a transatlantic textile trade\, which boomed alongside American plantation slavery\, and connects to the pale aesthetics of neoclassicism. \nMonochromatic and intricately textured\, the presentation poses the question: What histories remain visible in needlework done in white on white?

SUMMARY:Yours Forever: Forest Park at 150
DESCRIPTION:America’s best urban park turns 150 years young in 2026. Over the course of the last century and a half\, Forest Park has hosted pivotal moments in St. Louis history: the 1904 World’s Fair\, Charles Lindbergh’s 1927 speech to more than 100\,000 people following his historic flight across the Atlantic\, and even a surprise Janis Joplin concert in 1968. But just as important\, Forest Park is the setting for countless everyday stories shared by St. Louisans: sledding down Art Hill\, exploring the Balloon Glow\, and visiting the zoo and museums. \nYours Forever: Forest Park at 150 will explore how St. Louisans have used and adapted the park throughout its history and the moments and memories—big and small—that make it special.

SUMMARY:Suzy Farren: SOLILOQUY (September 13 - November 15)
DESCRIPTION:The Kingsbury Gallery presenst SOLILOQUY an exhibition from Suzy Farren September 13 - November 15! \nSuzy Farren's work has been in some 75 art shows nationally and has received a variety of awards. Her work is characterized by physicality and a constant curiosity. \n"In a soliloquy\, a character expresses inner thoughts out loud on stage. Similarly\, this body of work expresses my intuitive self out loud. Starting with a coat of black house paint\, I layer on additional paint and paper. As I scrape and sand the surface\, shapes and textures are revealed. A stroke of paint here\, a found scrap there; the repetitive process of reflecting and responding eventually reveals a finished piece."  S. Farren
