The cure for cabin fever is getting out and hearing some great live music. Fear no cold with these Bands of Note:
Monday, January 22 – At the Tic Toc Tavern local guitarist Nick Pence takes the stage playing folk and blues. 8 pm, no cover.
Wednesday, January 24 – Delmar Hall is hosting Stick Figure, which is Scott Woodruff, a self-taught musician who spins great music out of a foundation of roots-dub reggae. 8 pm, $26.
Thursday, January 25 – Out in South County at Helen Fitzgerald’s, local cover band musician Matt Colin takes the stage to play your favorite tunes. 6 pm, no cover.
Friday, January 26 – Local guitar hero and swing master Tommy Halloran takes the stage at Das Bevo Underground. 7 pm, $10.
Saturday, January 27 – Get to Fubar for the St. Louis Underground Hip Hop Tournament Round 2 and get yourself on stage for a shot at the $500 first place trophy. Or just go and enjoy trying to spot the next Nelly. 8 pm, $15.
Sunday, January 28 – The Folk School of KDHX is once again putting on a traditional jazz jam session and as this town is stinkin’ with jazz talent, it’s always a great time. 2:30, free.
What the Locals Know: A local treasure that puts on great concerts, the Folk School actually creates many of our great musicians. They offer classes and private lessons in traditional string instruments.
Music Note of Note: Rapper, singer, songwriter, and owner of several Grammies, Nelly was born right here in St. Louis in 1974. Among his many music and entrepreneurial ventures, he also runs the nonprofit St. Louis–based 4Sho4Kids Foundation, which aims to educate minorities about leukemia and the importance of bone marrow transplants.
