Hear this Weekend: Live Music in St. Louis July 15-17
Live Music in St. Louis
In any given week there are over 300 bands playing live music in St. Louis in over 75 places – here are just a few Bands of Note:
Friday, July 15th – Start your weekend off with something completely different – the Pop Punk Vs. Metal Core event at Cicero’s. Local cover bands take on the music of underground groups like Boys Like Girls, Bowling for Soup, A Day to Remember, and Asking Alexandria, among others. $10 at the door for a total of eight bands is pretty cool.
Saturday, July 16th – One St. Louis’ best and busiest jazz trumpet players, Jim Manley, will be leading his All Star Group at Nathalie’s. This is one of the town’s most elegant, romantic restaurants but it will heat up when Jim starts blowing in his Maynard Ferguson-influenced style. In addition to his impressive chops, he brings a sense of fun. Show starts at 8:30.
Saturday July 16th –Dr. Zhivegas, performs a special tribute to Prince at the Old Rock House. For 21 years this five piece has been a regional institution – give them your ear and you’ll instantly know why. For this special show they play at 9 and then do another show at 12:30 a.m., and both will party like it’s 1999. $10 cover.
What the Locals Know: Sunday, July 17th– Miss Jubilee, our ambassador of Swing, is playing for free at Bobby’s Frozen Custard, 7:30 to 9:30. This lady and her hip band perform music from the 1930s and 1940s and will get you up on your feet.
Music Note of Note: On the way to the club, stop by the Scott Joplin House. The King of Ragtime’s home has been restored as it was when he lived there in 1902. Oh, and yes of course there is an antique player piano spinning out his wonderful melodies. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., $10.
