Hear this Weekend: Live Music in St. Louis July 29-30
Live Music in St. Louis
In any given week there are over 300 bands playing in over 75 places! Here are just a few Bands of Note:
Friday, July 29 – Get over to Venice Café and hear one of our music institutions, the Bottoms Up Blues Gang. They celebrated their 15th year and if you hear them, you’ll know why they’ve been going strong for so long. The show starts at 9, but get there early and check out the good food and what locals call one of our best patios.
Friday, July 29 – Over at the Atomic Cowboy in the Bootleg room, there’s going to be a “journey into sound.” DJs Vthom, Chris Brown, and Nick O will be part of the Table Manners series that gives audience members a chance to really be part of making the music. Starts at 9, $5 cover.
Sunday, July 30 – Definitely try to catch the Irish Brigade at McGurk’s. This trio features locals Mike Wallace, Ian Walsh, and our town’s most amazing Irish fiddler, Kevin Buckley. No cover, starts at 7.
What the Locals Know: Hang out and eat goodly at the Blues City Deli in the Benton Park neighborhood. Every Thursday at 6 and Saturday at 1 they host local musicians. On July 30, it’s Bad Brad and the Fat Cats singin’ the blues.
Music Note of Note: The St. Louis Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1880, making it the second-oldest symphony orchestra in the U.S. (New York is the first.) Since 1925 it has played in our magnificent Powell Hall. If you ever get a chance to hear this world-class Grammy Award–winning orchestra, please do.
