IKEA to Open in St. Louis on September 30

Tuesday June 30, 2015

The countdown begins! Only 91 days left until IKEA opens in St. Louis.

Today, the Swedish retailer announced that it will open it’s first Missouri Store at 9 am on Wednesday, September 30. Customers can start living up 48 hours in advance of the opening.

The St. Louis area has been asking for a local IKEA store for years, and the store is expected to offer special prizes to it’s first customers. Opening day promotions and prizes can be found at IKEA-USA.com/StLouis.

The 380,000 square foot store will feature nearly 10,000 exclusively designed items, 50 inspirational room-settings, three model home interiors, a supervised children’s play area, and a 450-seat restaurant serving Swedish specialties such as meatballs with lingonberries and salmon plates, as well as American dishes. Other family-friendly features include a ‘Children’s IKEA’ area in the Showroom, baby care rooms, play areas throughout the store, and preferred parking.

“We are thrilled by the construction progress made to date, and believe the remaining milestones and interior build-up will be completed by end of September,” noted John Achillea, store manager of the future IKEA St. Louis. “Besides furnishing our store, we are focused on training the 300 coworkers joining the IKEA family.”

Until IKEA opens in St. Louis, shoppers will have to drive to the Chicago or Kansas City regions to shop in-person for the retailer’s affordable, build-it-yourself furniture.
