Summer is patio weather, and a lot of local venues respond by featuring live music on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Get out and hear them, and these other Bands of Note:

Live Music in St. Louis

Monday, August 14 – Jim Manley and Randy Bahr again bring their invigorating instrumental jazz to Momo’s Greek Restaurant. An evening here will chase your Monday blues away. 7, no cover.

Tuesday, August 15 – If you’ve never experienced ace blues guitarist and longtime Chuck Berry protégé Billy Peek, you have no excuse for missing him at Faust Park in Chesterfield. This is the last of Faust’s summer concert series and it goes out with a bang. 7, free.

Thursday, August 17 –The Old Rock House stage is featuring Welshly Arms. This six piece combines their love of blues with rhythm and soul with a dose of good ol’ rock and roll, all wrapped up in their respect for their midwestern roots. Old Souls Revival opens for them. Doors open at 7, $12.

Friday, August 18  – Let’s do something completely different and head to the Heavy Anchor, which has an intriguing bill of the Goes – a “somber pop trio, fresh like cucumber water;” plus Tory Starbuck Project and NTH. 9, $10.

Saturday, August 19 – You can’t go wrong with the Four Banjo Review – unless you don’t like banjos and/or are still spooked by Deliverance. Hosted by our fantastic community radio station, KDHX, on its stage at the Magnolia Cafe, this performance of the local banjo club includes kids, so bring yours. 7, $10.

What the Locals Know: Soulard is rich with live music, but it’s not just a nighttime thing. On Saturday and Sunday afternoons many joints open their patios and feature local duos and trios for you to enjoy while you catch up with friends and sip either a fruity cocktail or a local craft beer. Hammerstone’s is just one of the many for you to check out – currently they have a jam session with VooDoo Blues band every Sunday afternoon at 4.

Music Note of Note: St. Louis also loves recorded music, specifically the good ol’ long-playing records. We have over a dozen stores where you can get new and used vinyl. Two of the most popular ones are Euclid Records and Vintage Vinyl, both of which regularly host in-store live music.
