8 Don’t Miss Mardi Gras Events

Mardi Gras is right around the corner, and it’s time to start the celebrations. From a 5k race to multiple dining experiences, a dog derby, parades and more!

Family Winter Carnival | January 9 | 12 – 4pm | FREE

The Family Winter Carnival is a chance for everyone to get into the Mardi Gras spirit. There are live performances, arts and crafts and a children’s parade. The carnival is held at Soulard Market Park, but many of the events are inside a heated tent.

Wine, Beer, and Whisky Taste | January 22 | 7 – 11pm

Hurricanes may be the drink of choice during many Mardi Gras events, but Soulard also celebrates with wine, beer and whiskey. The Mardi Gras Wine, Beer and Whiskey Taste will be held at Soulard Market Park at the Bud Light Party Centre. Tickets are $40 in advance and $50 at the door.

Cajun Cook-Off | January 23 | 12 – 4pm

You are sure to get your fill of Cajun and Creole food at the Cajun Cook-Off. Ten professional chefs and ten amateur cooks compete in separate categories for the best Cajun/Creole dish. Watch the chefs prepare their dishes, then it’s time to eat. Everyone who attends gets food, Bud Light and hurricanes. Tickets are $35 in advance and $45 at the door.

5k Run for your Beads | January 30 | 9am

While most runs offer water stations during the race, the Run for Your Beads 5K features hurricane and beer stations. Runners show off their best and most outlandish Mardi Gras clothing, deck themselves in beads and make their way through historic Soulard. Registration: $25 until January 12th; $30 after January 12th to race day; $35 race day

Southern Comfort Taste of Soulard | January 30 – 31 | 11am – 5pm

Don’t miss out on this unique food-and-drink experience that allows you to stop at some of Soulard’s best restaurants and bars to sample signature dishes and delicious Southern Comfort cocktails. On Saturday, there will also be complimentary trolley rides from pub to pub. Tickets: $25

Beggin’ Pet Parade & Wiener Dog Derby | January 31 | 1pm

The Beggin’ Pet Parade allows visitors to dress their pets in Mardi Gras garb and strut their stuff. Don’t miss the 18th annual PetSmart Wiener Dog Derby as dachshunds compete in three categories: Cocktail Weenies, Ballpark Franks and Hot Dogs.

Mardi Gras Parade | Februrary 6 | 11 am

Prepare for the weekend’s signature event; the Grand Parade will start at Busch Stadium and make its way all the way down to the brewery. Expect to see big floats, bands, bright costumes, plenty of beads and more.

Bud Light Block Party | February 6 | 1:30 pm

With an all-you-can-eat Cajun/Creole buffet, open bar, DJs and dancing, climate-controlled areas and more, the annual Bud Light Party Tent is a great way to celebrate the weekend’s festivities right in the heart of the Soulard neighborhood. Mardi Gras participants should not miss the free Bud Light Concerts with both local and national acts taking place on Saturday.
