Rain or shine, St. Louis has plenty of options for a good time this weekend.
On Nov. 2, the shuttered skybridge over North 7th Street in downtown St. Louis, which connected the former Dillard’s building (now The Laurel) to a privately owned parking garage that opened in the 1960s, was removed. With the removal of the skybridge, the demolition of the condemned parking garage can proceed, which is an important part of the plans for AC Next Gen and the future of the America’s Center.
In her remarks on Nov. 2, Kathleen “Kitty” Ratcliffe, president of Explore St. Louis, recognized city comptroller Darlene Green and deputy comptroller LaTaunia Kenner, who seized on an opportunity to add funds to purchase the parking garage for the betterment of the America’s Center.
Now, under the watchful eye of Rich Bradley and the Board of Public Service, the demolition of the parking garage by general contractor Ben Hur Construction Co. and its sub-contractor Marschel Wrecking can continue. Once the parking garage is gone, the site will be used temporarily as a surface parking area while the AC Next Gen construction project relocates parking options to the west and north of the convention center.
