St. Louis Sports Heat Up This Season
While the Cardinals gear up for the 2012 season down at spring training (with Redbird nation anxiously counting down the minutes to opening day), the St. Louis sports scene is in full swing this month with a bevy of must-watch games. From men’s basketball to wrestling to girls’ volleyball, here’s the lineup of events to keep your fan-cheering, anthem-singing and foam-finger-waving skills honed for an exciting season of sports.
The month kicks off on the court with Arch Madness and the return of the MVC Basketball Tournament at the Scottrade Center March 1-4. This men’s basketball tournament features a showcase of Missouri’s best university ballers as they battle for a spot in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Midwest Regional Championship March 23 and 25 at the Edward Jones Dome. Bring out your brackets and watch as your favorite teams compete for a coveted Final Four spot at the NCAA Championship in New Orleans.
College sports continue in March with the 2012 NCAA Division 1 Wrestling Championships at the Scottrade Center March 15-17. Whether you’re a die-hard fan (come on, admit it—you can recite every line from The Wrestler with Mickey Rourke!), or you just get amped up watching the competitiveness of a one-on-one all-out physical battle, you won’t want to miss this annual tournament of strength. Or get your volley on as thousands of junior volleyballers descend on the America’s Center March 16-18 for the Lids Team Sports Mideast Qualifier. The tournament features the nation’s best girl’s teams and clubs, attracting more than 20,000 spectators every year.
Whatever your sport fantasy, St. Louis has something for you to cheer about in March!
