Set your own city limits

Our city has plenty to offer, but if you’re looking to take a relaxing drive, venture beyond St. Louis and check out these additional attractions that are closer than you think!

Just a two-hour drive from the Gateway Arch, you can attend a regional wine tasting, go exploring inside hidden caverns, immerse yourself in French colonial heritage and much more.

The fun doesn’t have to stop here! Extend your St. Louis getaway with these unique and exciting day trips and see what’s waiting just outside the city!

French Colonial Territory

Learn about the French colonial roots of Ste. Genevieve, Missouri as you tour beautiful historic homes and stop for a wine tasting. Then drive through scenic state parks and view 18th century historical sites.

Great River Road

Some of the region’s most dramatic scenery is nestled along a winding road north of Alton, Illinois. Drive along the Great River Road with the Mississippi River on one side and soaring limestone bluffs on the other.

Historic St. Charles

Visit the home of Missouri's first state capital and enjoy diverse shopping and dining of this elegant historic region. Learn about the Lewis and Clark Expedition and roll the dice at Ameristar Casino.

Mark Twain’s Hannibal

Explore the birthplace of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn in Mark Twain's childhood home of Hannibal, Missouri. Visit the Mark Twain Museum, walk the streets and ride the riverboat that inspired the classic novel.

Missouri Wine Country

Wine connoisseurs will love a trip through America's first wine region that looks across the beautiful river valley. Journey down the historic KATY Trail and visit Daniel Boone's home in Defiance, Missouri.

River Towns & Cave Diving

Journey to the charming river town of Kimmswick and stop for a leisurely lunch. Go for a freshwater dive adventure in Bonne Terre or take a narrated tour through the impressive underground mine.

Southern Illinois

Twenty minutes east of downtown St. Louis, visitors can enjoy the serene Our Lady of the Snows Shrine and the Midwest’s largest “pick-your-own” farm, Eckert’s. In Collinsville, the ancient Native American civilization of Cahokia Mounds is worth the short drive from St. Louis.

Springfield, Illinois

The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library is a must stop for history buffs. Located in Springfield, Illinois, just two hours northeast of St. Louis, this facility is the centerpiece of Springfield sites dedicated to America’s 16th president.

Underground Wonders

Meramec Caverns, the oldest attraction on Route 66, offers guided tours of the rarest and largest cave formations in the world. Adventure seekers can also explore nearby Onondaga, Cathedral and Fisher caves or canoe along the scenic Meramec River and the crisp Huzzah and Courtois creeks.
