The Civil War in Missouri Exhibit at the Missouri History Museum
To commemorate the Civil War sesquicentennial and to explore the complexities of the Civil War in the twenty-fourth state the exhibit will feature compelling artifacts, imagery and interactive elements. Although the exhibition addresses issues with which our entire nation wrestled, topics that are distinctively Missourian will take center stage. Exhibition dates are subject to change. DaVinci Machines II: The Australian Exhibition (Dates Vary)
This exhibit is on loan from the Museum of Leonardo DaVinci in Florence, Italy. With over 60 machines on display, many of which are interactive, the collection features replicas of the major and most striking inventions built from Leonardo’s 500 – year old designs. Featured machines include the DaVinci bicycle, hang glider, and air screw, the precursor to the modern-day helicopter. Focus on the Collection-Edward Curtis: Visions of Native America Exhibit (Dates Vary)
This exhibition of eleven pictures provides a brief overview of Curtis's monumental endeavor to document tribes in the early part of the twentieth century, as forced relocation onto reservations diminished the ability to live in traditional ways. The photographs on display include representations of American Indians living in the Plains and Southwest. The images focus on a range of subjects, from vivid portraiture and atmospheric landscape to details of dress and the production of arts and crafts. This exhibit fills the gallery space with 1100 birds in flight and a mesmerizing feature of the exhibit is their tendency to move in groups with a seeming collective consciousness. Highlights from the Textile Collection Exhibit
This exhibition presents a selection of 21 textiles highlighting the depth and diversity of the Museum's holdings. Included in the exhibit is a very fine and unusual Turkish Ushak carpet from the 16th century. Another featured work, Esther and Ahasuerus, given by Mrs. William A. McDonnell demonstrates elaborate English embroidery of the second half of the 17th century. The exhibition also includes more contemporary work including a woven piece by St. Louis artist Mary Giles. Two Mississippi communities, St. Louis and New Orleans, are linked physically and metaphorically through this exhibition. Mantegna to Man Ray: Six Explorations in Prints, Drawings, and Photographs Exhibit
This exhibition focuses on six areas of uncommon strength and quality in the works on paper collections. Three of the exhibition's six sections revolve around a single, innovative artist – Pieter Bruegel, George Caleb Bingham, and Max Beckmann – while the others are defined by a place or a time. Highlights include prints by Andrea Mantegna and Rembrandt van Rijn, and the steel etching plate for the prit after George Caleb Bingham's County Election. A selection of 20th-century European prints, drawings, and photographs includes two large-scale pastels of dancers by Edgar Degas, and Man Ray's solarized photograph, Iris. New Media Series—Hiraki Sawa: Migration Exhibit
In Migration, a seven-minute digital video, men and women depicted at Lilliputian scale, along with miniature horses, elephants, and camels, traverse the interior of a life-size apartment. Sawa borrowed pioneering photographer Eadweard Muybridge's late 19th-century studies of human and animal locomotion, animating the walking gaits of Muybridge's subjects across the window sills, floors, and countertops of the Japanese artist's flat in London. Sawa merges 21st-century digital technology with the 19th-century beginnings of photography to produce an intriguingly captivating, imaginary world in black and white. Donald Judd: The Multicolored Works Exhibit

Compton Hill Water Tower Open to the Public
Climb to the top of the 170-foot Compton Hill Water Tower and enjoy a spectacular, 360-degree evening view of the metropolitan St. Louis area. There are 198 stairs and seven landings to the top. This historic structure predates compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The tower was built in the late-19th century on the highest point in the city. It was designed as part of the city's public water supply system. Compton Hill Water Tower Open to the Public
Climb to the top of the 170-foot Compton Hill Water Tower and enjoy a spectacular, 360-degree view of the metropolitan St. Louis area. There are 198 stairs and seven landings to the top. This historic structure predates compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The tower was built in the late-19th century on the highest point in the city. Postwar German Art in the Collection Exhibit
Drawing from the Museum's great strengths in postwar German art, the exhibition addresses a broad range of artistic responses in the aftermath of World War II, with themes and groupings such as the legacy of Joseph Beuys, large-scale works by Gerhard Richter, Sigmar Polke, and Anselm Kiefer, the vibrant scene of 1980s Cologne, and the influence of the Düsseldorf School of Photography. 136th Annual Veiled Prophet Parade
This annual parade is one of St. Louis' most enduring family traditions. The parade begins at Washington Avenue and Fourth Street in downtown St. Louis, makes its way south on Fourth Street to Market Street, heads west on Market concluding at St. Louis Union Station at Market and 20th Streets.
