The new St. Louis Aquarium takes Center Stage at Union Station
For years St. Louis Union Station was one of the largest and busiest passenger rail terminals in the world, helping move passengers from the east coast to the western part of the United States. It has served several purposes since then but it’s now home to more than 13,000 animals at the St. Louis Aquarium at Union Station, the 200-foot St. Louis Wheel, a carousel, an 18-hole mini-golf course, the mirror maze, a ropes course, the train park, and several restaurants to go along with the St. Louis Union Station Hotel.
All Aboard at the St. Louis Aquarium
The St. Louis Aquarium at Union Station will take you on an aquatic journey like no other. From alligator snapping turtles and personalized interactive experiences to zebra sharks and community-building activities, the aquarium has something for everyone. Explore what awaits you!
Shark Canyon is the largest attraction found within the St. Louis Aquarium at Union Station. It offers views of 80 sharks and rays swimming in a 250,000-gallon environment with a J-wall that arches over the heads of visitors.
Six Global Aquatic Galleries
The St. Louis Aquarium features six different galleries. Besides Shark Canyon, you can immerse yourself in the natural beauty and rich history of the city’s two most prominent rivers, the Mississippi and Missouri, in the Confluence Gallery as you can explore local aquatic species. Next, Travel the riverways of South America, Africa and Southeast Asia in the Global Rivers Gallery. Come face to face with some of the world’s most unique animals and the important rivers in which they live. After getting your fill of the “river monsters” visit with the otters and owls at the Changing Rivers Galleries.The Ocean Shore Gallery is an interactive journey where kids can meet some interesting and often misunderstood animals that live within the shallows. Finally, make your way to the depths of the ocean in The Deep Gallery to see the Coral, Jellyfish, sea dragons and so much more.
Tickets and Hours
The aquarium will offer timed ticketing to save guests from waiting in long queue lines. General Admission tickets are $25 for Adult and $18 for Children (3-12) and will get you access to all of the Aquarium’s galleries, exhibits and interactive experiences. Combo Tickets will allow guests to experience two or more exciting Union Station attractions during their visit.
Food at St. Louis Union Station
You don’t have to worry about leaving Union Station to grab a bite to eat! Union Station has six restaurants, including The Soda Fountain, The Train Shed, 1894 Café and Landry’s Seafood.
The St. Louis Station Soda Fountain
Overlooking Union Station Lake, the Soda Fountain is a refreshing blast from the past with sweets, treats and eats for everyone. Situated between The St. Louis Wheel and The St. Louis Aquarium, the St. Louis Soda Fountain will offer unique spins on ice cream sundaes, boozy drinks, phosphate sodas, old-time candy, and Freak Shakes – an unexpected take on the traditional milkshake.
The Train Shed
The Train Shed is a unique gathering place filled with contemporary cuisine and creative cocktails in one of St. Louis’ most iconic locales. From rotating taps to entrées and apps, there will be something for everyone — especially those with a taste for adventure. The Train Shed will create an unforgettable dining experience for anyone who delights in exceptionally great flavors and people. Every track leads home to The Train Shed.
Located on the second floor of Union Station, the 1894 Cafe is a casual family-friendly café providing aquarium goers with a great bite and convenience. Unique sandwiches, bright salads, and quick snacks, this is a don’t miss stop while at Union Station.
Landry’s Seafood House
Located by the lake underneath the train shed, Landry’s Seafood House is renowned for scrumptious seafood featuring specialties such as Shrimp Orleans, Blackened Snapper and Lemon-Pepper Catfish.
The Station Grille is located in the Union Station Hotel and seats 130 customers at any given time, serving some of the finest food in the entire city. The Station Grille dates back to the days when train passengers walked the halls of Union Station.
The Grand Hall
A St. Louis landmark rich in history, The Grand Hall now functions as a fabulous destination to enjoy a drink and tasty bite to eat. With its sweeping archway, fresco and gold leaf detailing, mosaics and art glass windows, one can imagine the incredible impression the room created in 1894 on opening day.
