No matter your age, interests or budget, you’ll find something fun to do in St. Louis this weekend.
Lynyrd Skynyrd is an influential American rock band that originated in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1964, initially formed by lead singer Ronnie Van Zant and guitarists Allen Collins and Gary Rossington. They gained prominence with their debut album, Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd, in 1973, which included the iconic track "Free Bird." The band is known for its unique blend of Southern rock, blues, and country influences, with other notable hits like "Sweet Home Alabama." Tragically, the band faced a significant loss when Van Zant and guitarist Steve Gaines died in a plane crash in 1977, leading to a temporary disbandment. In 1987, Lynyrd Skynyrd reunited with Johnny Van Zant, Ronnie's younger brother, taking over vocal duties. Over the years, the band has experienced numerous lineup changes while continuing to tour and record. They have released multiple albums and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006. Lynyrd Skynyrd remains a vital part of rock music history, celebrated for their enduring sound and legacy.
Built around the songwriting skills and fiery guitar riffing of Mick Jones and the arena-filling vocals of Lou Gramm, Foreigner's hooky style of AOR caught on in a big way in the late '70s. Their first two albums, Foreigner and Double Vision, were a double shot of exceedingly catchy songs and slick production that topped the charts and spawned a number of huge singles. As musical trends changed, so did the band: they added new wave elements to their sound, worked with Mutt Lange on 4, and moved into an adult style on ballads like "Waiting for a Girl Like You" and their biggest hit, "I Want to Know What Love Is." Though the band's recording career stalled when Gramm left the band in the late '80s, different incarnations of the band continued touring and their presence can still be heard daily on rock radio.
