Mary Meachum Freedom Crossing

The Mary Meachum Freedom Crossing is moving to the Gateway Arch Grounds on Saturday, October 10!

“Seeking Freedom Long Before and Long After 1776,” the 24th annual celebration highlights enslaved peoples’ continuous fight for freedom in the context of celebrating America's 250th anniversary by re-enacting the historic events of the Underground Railroad escape attempt of May 21, 1855.

The October 10 event is free and open to the public from 2-4 p.m. All ages are welcome to witness and reflect on how enslaved people, and their allies, risked it all in pursuit of basic freedoms.

Audiences can expect much more than a traditional history presentation. A cast of 20 actors will bring scenes from America's struggle for freedom to life through dramatic performances including historic spirituals that were sung by enslaved people, live music, and powerful storytelling tied directly to Missouri's past.
