August 9: Matinees at the Memorial | “The Warrior Tradition” | 2:00 p.m.
“The Warrior Tradition” tells the astonishing, heartbreaking, inspiring and largely untold story of Native Americans in the United States military. The film relates the stories of Native American warriors from their own points of view—stories of service and pain, of courage and fear. Guests can visit the special exhibition "Why We Serve: Native Americans in the United States Armed Forces” before or after this film.
August 23: Matinee at the Memorial: “Bones of Crows” | 2:00 p.m.
Unfolding over 100 years, “Bones of Crows” is a feature film told through the eyes of Cree Matriarch Aline Spears as she survives a childhood in Canada’s residential school system to continue her family’s generational fight in the face of systemic starvation, racism and sexual abuse. The film weaves together underrepresented moments in Canadian and Indigenous history, including the Indigenous contributions to World War II, the ongoing cases of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.
