The MX District

Entertainment Districts

About

The up and coming MX district has it all, as it brings new life into downtown with fine dining, shopping, arts and culture, offices, hotels, art venues, concert halls and an environmentally LEED certified building all in one place. Located on Washington Avenue that was voted by the American Planning Association’s as one of America’s 10 Great Streets in 2011. The nearby Sixth and Convention MetroLink Station offers a convenient 25 minute trip to the St. Louis Lambert International Airport. The district features former President Barack Obama’s favorite pizza restaurant, a state of the art movie theatre, trendy restaurants, and retail stores. The area has just gotten a whole lot brighter with newly installed modern LED street lamps and a pedestrian lighting component. The area is also partnering with local artists to install outdoor exhibits. The MX district area surrounding Seventh Street and Washington Avenue has a long lineage of retail success as it was once home to the region’s first department stores, such as William Barr Dry Goods Co. and Famous Clothing Store. In 1985 the area was home to St. Louis Centre, one of the largest shopping malls in the country. The MX district is looking to revitalize this once booming retail hub. It features the innovative partnership for downtown St. Louis’s 60,000 square foot technology, culinary, and fashion incubator, called T-Rex.
