Twenty-four hundred acres of natural Ozark landscape with 1.5 miles of Meramec River frontage and a diversity of native plant and animal habitats. Ponds, prairies, woodlands, wild flowers and hiking trails. Adults, $5; seniors 65-plus, $3; children 12 and under, free.

Don’t go there if you want to go birding or look at the native flora. There is No stopping in roadway. Only pull off in the few parking lots. The guide you get doesn’t say any of this.

An interesting nature reserve. Be sure to spend time touring the bascom house with a docent. Fascinating history. Lots of conservation materials available throughout.
