ST. LOUIS: This morning, Energizer Park, home of Major League Soccer’s St. Louis CITY SC, announced that it will host Olympic Football (Soccer) matches during the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
St. Louis is one of seven U.S. cities selected to welcome matches for the LA28 Olympic Football (Soccer) Tournaments, marking the return of the Olympic Games to the region for the first time since 1904, when St. Louis hosted the first Olympic Games ever held on U.S. soil.
“Today is a truly historic moment for St. Louis,” said Brad Dean, president and CEO of Explore St. Louis. “More than a century after hosting the first U.S. Olympic Games, we are proud to say the Olympics are returning to St. Louis in 2028. This selection reflects real confidence in our infrastructure, our hospitality community and our ability to deliver a world-class experience for athletes, fans and media from around the globe.”
Purpose-built for the global game and known for its electric atmosphere, Energizer Park – which will be known as “St. Louis Stadium” throughout the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games – provides a premier stage for Olympic Football (Soccer) and a striking backdrop for international broadcasts showcasing St. Louis’ skyline, culture and energy.
From a tourism perspective, the impact is expected to be significant. Olympic Football (Soccer) attracts domestic and international visitors who will stay in local hotels, dine in area restaurants and explore neighborhoods across the region. Just as important, the event introduces St. Louis to new audiences who might be experiencing the destination for the first time.
“Major sporting events like this drive both immediate economic impact and long-term tourism growth,” Dean said. “They create repeat visitation, elevate global awareness and deliver lasting benefits well beyond the final match.”
The global visibility generated by the LA28 Games places St. Louis on an unrivaled international stage, with broadcast and digital reach spanning continents. Each match presents an opportunity to showcase the city’s character, hospitality and momentum to a worldwide audience.
“For our community, this is a point of pride that connects our history to our future,” Dean added. “It reinforces St. Louis’ role as a city that can host, welcome and shine on the world stage. We are deeply grateful for this opportunity and cannot wait to welcome the world in 2028.”
Tickets for all Olympic sports go on sale this April. Fans are encouraged to register for the LA28 Ticket Draw on LA28’s website for a chance to purchase a ticket to history.
