Come for the coffee. Stay for the plants. Frequent for the connection.

Maypop Coffee & Garden Shop invites people from near and far to Webster Groves, where they can find inspiration among nature. “Whether you’re enjoying alone time or gathering with friends, Maypop sets the scene with coffee and plants,” garden center manager Grace Schwerdtfeger says. “There’s something kind of wonderful about bringing two things that people love together.”

Located in a two-story, red-brick house, the coffee shop will warm your soul. Imagine walking into a friend’s home, with plants in the windows, art on the walls and tempting aromas wafting from the kitchen. Maypop Coffee & Garden Shop offers standard café sips, including espresso drinks, drip coffee and cold brew made with Blueprint Coffee beans, as well as seasonal concoctions. Past highlights include a chocolate-covered strawberry latte, orange mocha, strawberry matcha and hibiscus lemonade.

For heartier breakfast items, snag a seat and dig into the Kale and Basil Pesto Toast topped with tomatoes and garlic-infused olive oil or the Garlic Hummus Toast piled with tomato, cucumber and everything seasoning. Granola from Knead Bakehouse + Provisions also takes the yogurt parfait to the next level.

“We didn’t remove any walls inside the building, so the space still feels cozy,” Schwerdtfeger explains. “Upstairs, we’ve created a quiet space, and there’s seating in the greenhouse – where I like to hang out.”

Inside and out, Maypop Coffee & Garden Shop has you covered with beautiful plants like its namesake, a showy native vine whose stunning summer blooms give way to an edible fruit.

Grown locally, other native plants found throughout the greenhouse include coneflowers, salvias and prickly pears. The shop also leans into herbs – think different types of basil, oregano, rosemary, thyme and lavender. “Apple mint, orange mint, strawberry mint,” Schwerdtfeger adds. “My imagination goes wild when I think of all the drinks and desserts that you can make with the different flavors of herbs.”

Traveling via plane, train or automobile? Maypop has plants as small as two inches! “If you’re like me, you don’t mind filling your carry-on with plants,” Schwerdtfeger says with a laugh. “Where there’s a will, there’s a way.”

At the terrarium bar, you can also create your own St. Louis souvenir. “We have an assortment of glassware that you can shop,” Schwerdtfeger says, “and you can fill your terrarium with a variety of plants from the garden shop – plus, rocks, glitter and other decorative elements. We’ll walk you through the steps of building and maintaining it, and then you’ll always have a beautiful piece of St. Louis at home.”

Maypop Coffee & Garden Shop has other activities for guests, as well. Check out their social media platforms to see if your visit coincides with a local market or craft crawl.
