Downtown

Historic downtown St. Louis is a bustling center of industry, culture and entertainment. With beautiful residential lofts, innovative business properties, all three of St. Louis’ professional sports teams and an exciting nightlife scene, downtown offers visitors some real ‘big city’ fun.

From its days as the 20th century epicenter of St. Louis’ garment and shoe manufacturing district, downtown St. Louis has undergone a myriad of changes and modifications. What was once considered just another depressed urban core has been reinvented as a neighborhood for the 21st century Midwesterner. Downtown’s Loft District blurs the line between work and play, thanks to its cohabitation of major corporations, small businesses, residential lofts, boutiques, galleries, restaurants and nightspots. The neighborhood’s evolution has returned the once proud historic buildings to service and succeeded in making the heart of the region pulse with activity and life.

Staying downtown will give your group easy access to the Gateway Arch, City Museum, Citygarden, Anheuser-Busch Brewery Tour, Historic Union Station, Busch Stadium and much more.

Midtown

The Midtown area is home to some of St. Louis’ most exciting attractions and neighborhoods.

Forest Park, the seventh largest urban park in the United States, is a natural oasis in an urban environment. Located on 1,371 acres in the center of the St. Louis metropolitan area, Forest Park is about 500 acres larger than New York City’s Central Park. It contains St. Louis’ major museums – the Saint Louis Art Museum and the Missouri History Museum –as well as the Saint Louis Science Center, Saint Louis Zoo, and The Muny, which is the country’s biggest outdoor theatre. Forest Park is also home to the Jewel Box, a flower conservatory that’s a popular venue for special events. Visitors and locals alike enjoy the bike and pedestrian path that circles the park, making the park a popular year-round playground. Annual events include the free Shakespeare Festival of St. Louis (late May/June) and LouFest, a two-day celebration of modern music and green living held in August.

Things To Do In Central West End St Louis

Perched on the eastern edge of Forest Park, the chic Central West End is full of charming sidewalk cafés, galleries, antique shops, boutiques and pubs. It’s a little European, a little New York and totally St. Louis. The CWE is the perfect place to relax and people-watch after exploring the neighborhood’s popular visitor attractions. Adjacent to the commercial district, tree-lined streets with stately turn-of-the-century homes distinguish the area. Look for the family apartment of playwright Tennessee Williams, said to be the setting of his play The Glass Menagerie. The breathtaking Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis, housing the world’s largest collection of mosaic art, anchors this exciting neighborhood. Annual events include a popular house tour in the spring, the Central West End Art Fair & Taste Festival in June, a Greek Festival during Labor Day weekend and Halloween festivities in October.

The Grand Center Arts & Entertainment District and St. Louis University form the eastern edge of the Midtown area. The artistic heart of the city, Grand Center has a lot to see with dozens of unique galleries, museums and theaters. Hear live music, see a broadway show or view a collection of contemporary art in this impressive district that’s bustling with creative expression. Arts industry peers have said there are few – if any – districts in the entire country that have the intensity and caliber of arts offerings as Grand Center, thanks to its 12,000 theatre seats, numerous cultural events, and a dozen galleries and museums. The individual venues offer the traditional and the experimental, as the district is home to such renowned entities as the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra, The Fabulous Fox Theatre, The Black Repertory Company, Sheldon Concert Hall and Art Galleries, Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis, Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts, Jazz at the Bistro and more.
